I am new to the Supras and im looking into buying a 1JZ. My question is about making a 1.5JZ without swapping the entire lower block. Since 1JZ bore is same, but 2JZ has longer stroke and the block/head pretty much bolt up...instead of buying lower block, why not just swap crank, rods and maybe cams and tune it? Are the cylinders also longer in 2JZ? would you have to machine/fabricate the 2JZ crank to fit? or is there not enough room to put the rods/crank in crank case?

how about 1jz rods/crank/pistons inside a 2jz block? would it be a de-stroked 2jz?

Fail: the compression ratio would be so low... But you could probably run like 45lbs of boost daily to make up for it.

lmfao...i will jsut stick with either full 1JZ or 2JZ. Still havent gotten one yet, researching how much it cost to buy all accessories and to do swap for 2JZ. No one in ohio is selling 2JZ car that i can afford so i buy cheap MK3 and try swap myself. or buy a MK3 with 1JZ swap already...idk, theres a couple choices. But i need my Celica sold first otherwise nothing is happening.

1JZ pistons would be an upgrade over 2Js because they have a smaller skirt therefore are lighter.
How bout custom rods on a 1J crank in a 2J block!? You can call it BastardJZ:biglaugh:

can you put 1JZ overbore pistons in a 2JZ or are the piston pin/connecting rod diameters different? anything can be done...fabrication+machining+mis matched parts = your bastardJZ

1JZ overbore pistons would be fine, only if the 2JZ block has the same machine work to match that oversized piston diameter, the piston pin/connecting rod diameters are also the same, just stroke/rod length are different

Theoretically, for these reasons it would be better to stay 1JZ bottom-end in my opinion: the shorter stroke would cause less piston movement resulting in less heat in your block, unfortunately there goes your torque.. Also the 2JZ rods are the exact same "design" as the 1JZs (same width and length, just shorter height, so, they are stronger theoretically) so they could stand up to more abuse than the longer 2JZ rods

well, all i wanted was about 700 to 800 by the time i am done building. Something to cruise around with later on or let some steam off. no drag or autocross so i am not worried about over heating much.
