Alright...I'm sure there is a thread that answers this somewhere...but I've searched and searched and read through the 7MGE forums to no avail.
After wrecking my DD today, got in my 87 N/A to drive it today and the starter will not turn. Car wakes up fine, radio and such comes on, but when I try to turn the car on I get nothing. This has happened in the past if I've set the alarm off, fixed it by getting out and locking/unlocking the door. It's also similar symptoms to if the clutch switch wasn't getting depressed/had failed.
I tried jumping it off my other car, no help there. My voltmeter reads fine.
Is there any other method for resetting the panic mode? Any other ideas for simple duh fix?
Thanks! And if you find a thread answering this already then send me over and by all means flame me I couldn't have a more fml day.

Our cars are getting old now, and the wiring to the starter is notorious for not being strong enough to carry the full charge to it. There is a relay that will fix the problem once you determine if that is the problem.

First, make damn sure the car is out of gear and the brake is set. Next, run a wire directly from the battery to the post where the starter wire plugs into. If the starter starts working, then you have the common wire failure. I usually use the positive battery cable, but you have to be extremely careful to not touch anything else with the hot end. It's best to disconnect the negative, and have someone connect it once you get the cable into place at the starter.

If indeed you have the wiring problem, you have 2 choices. The best option is to replace your wiring harness with a less brittle one. Or, you can go the relay route, but that is a band aid to the problem. I'll try to find the thread that shows the how and why, and add a link shortly.

Hrm, it started just fine couple days ago...seems like the starter would turn a little and just not get enough power to crank the motor with that error...

I had this prob with my 91 turbo auto. Thought that I had a bad neutral start switch, 'cuz it would usually only crank in neutral so replaced that (over 200 dollars at autozone). Everything worked great for about a week, then it started doing it to me again, but only when the engine was hot. After leaving me stranded at wal-mart one night, my buddy suggested that the starter solenoid may be going out. I pulled the starter off and had it tested, and it tested good so I was like wtf? My buddy said to retest it at operating temp and sure enough it wouldn't pass. Something to note: the starter that was on the car when I got it was an autozone type re-mand starter. I got a toyota re-mand starter and compared the two and the toyota one was longer and thicker by a little bit vs. the one that I removed off the car. Got the new starter mounted and tweaked the adjustment of the neutral start switch a tiny bit and it has not failed to crank as it should ever since. Good Luck! Hope this helps. BTW, my original neutral start switch was reinstalled and the new one went back to autozone, so the switch was never at fault for the lack of cranking. It was only a little out of adjustment.

Ive been fighting this problem for a year now, but what i did a few months back was hotwire the starter to a push button and a relay then i spliced into the IGN. wire so the computer gets a signal from the starter and doesnt throw a code. i can start the car with my key, but everynow an then the system fucks up so i use my push button and my car never leaves me stranded. it works.
