After doing all the research for the pvc i.c. piping threads I decided to go with 2.5 inch exhaust piping. I had a local mufler shop bend me a piece of pipe today for my lower i.c. pipe. It took me most of the afternoon to install it but I got er done. My new turbo seems to take a while to spool, but when it does it really feels strong. I'm going to try and make my upper pipe sometime next week and then have it retuned and dynod to see if I'm getting more than the 251 rwhp that I was making with my stock turbo. The reason that I'm having it retuned is because while I was at it I backed the screw in the afm out all the way. I think it helped my fuelcut a little bit, but its hard to tell because I've got my boost turned down a little. Cant wait to see what it does at the track also. My best time so far was 9.00 through an 1/8. I know most 89 tempos are faster than that, but I'm still doing upgrades one at a time. Good luck with everyone elses car....lol

Umm...he's talking about his intercooler piping, not his exhuast. He used 2.5" exhuast piping to make some IC hardpipes and didn't use PVC pipes to do it.

Thanks for clarifying for me Loki. I thought that I had did something stupid, using 2.5" pipe. It wouldnt have surprised me in the least. I keep waiting to get banned from SM, but luckily you dont isolate anyone for ignorance. Having fun learning about my car though......lol.
EDIT:Bigzavs, It cost me a grand total of $24.00 for the 7' of pipe(still got over half left to do my top with) two couplings and labor for the shop to bend it for me. They bent it to match my stock piping, went home and tried it and had to go back and let them bend it about 1" more to line up to my turbo. I had them put a 2" pipe flared out and welded to the 2.5" so it would mate up to my stock i.c. Really wasnt hard at all.

I just had a new Garrett to4e with 50 trim built by www.bnrturbos.com
I had to relocate my powersteering reservoir, but I got it installed. The only thing it has that I didnt know about is, it came with a 4"inlet. I used a 4" to 3" rubber reducer. I've got it all hooked up and it seems to have a few more horses, but it's hard to tell for sure without getting on the dyno. I will tell you this though. When I test drove it the first time, after fixing my i.c. pipes, I was doing about 15 or 20 m.p.h. and when the turbo kicked in I started spinning like crazy. I never lost traction with my stock turbo before on the street. I did at the track a couple of times. Sorry for the long post, and I rechecked my spelling this time.

SH: LOL @ the spellcheck!

With your Turbo you could get away with either 2.25" or 2.5" pipes the smaller pipes would give a touch better throttle response.
2.25"
600 cfm = 247 mph = 0.32 mach

2.5"
600 cfm = 200 mph = 0.26 mach

Critical speed is around 304 mph = 0.40 mach.
(this is where you meet resistance/heating of the charge air through friction)

IJ, are you suggesting that I go with 2.25 instead of 2.5" piping from the turbo to the i.c.? I thought the 2.5 would be perfect, but there was no math behind my reasoning, just I thought the 2" stock pipes were too small. Thanks for the help and all the laughs.

SOUPRAT, I posted a reply, but I dont know why it didnt show up. I'll do it again. I did not take pictures of the pipe I made, because I was just wanting to get it done. It wasnt hard at all. I took out my stock pipes and had the muffler shop bend it just like stock. I had to go back a second time to have them bend it about 1" more, but that was it. Luckily I just live about three minutes from them. Good luck with your pipes. I know you can handle it.
