(1986.5 with turbo motor swap) Here is what happened. I was joy riding and all of a sudden out of no where I lost power and the car shut off. Nothing when you turn the key, or use funtions that work w/o the key in the ignition such as: dome lights, power locks etc. I broke down outside of my appartment, pushed the car in and let is sit overnight. The next morning the car started up fine, so I drove it to its normal parking spot. Next time I go to start the car, no electricity again, and never again since.
So far, I know the battery is good, I replaced both pos and neg battery cables. Replaced the AM1 and AM2 fuses, which both appeared good from the start. Checked all of the fuses in the box by the battery and in the driver side kick panel, all look good. I took a one of those volt testers and started checking stuff. I found something very odd. The spot the neg cable grounds on the block had 12.5V so I figured I had a positive touching a negative some place in the wireing. I found that on my stereo amp the ground and power touched, after correcting that the block was no longer hot (12V) but I still have no electrity.
Is it possible the wires crossing fried something? Is there a fuse blown that I am missing? Or can this be caused by something else all together? I am out of ideas. If anyone can help me, I would greatly appriciate it. Thanks in advanced.
