(1986.5 with turbo motor swap) Here is what happened. I was joy riding and all of a sudden out of no where I lost power and the car shut off. Nothing when you turn the key, or use funtions that work w/o the key in the ignition such as: dome lights, power locks etc. I broke down outside of my appartment, pushed the car in and let is sit overnight. The next morning the car started up fine, so I drove it to its normal parking spot. Next time I go to start the car, no electricity again, and never again since.

So far, I know the battery is good, I replaced both pos and neg battery cables. Replaced the AM1 and AM2 fuses, which both appeared good from the start. Checked all of the fuses in the box by the battery and in the driver side kick panel, all look good. I took a one of those volt testers and started checking stuff. I found something very odd. The spot the neg cable grounds on the block had 12.5V so I figured I had a positive touching a negative some place in the wireing. I found that on my stereo amp the ground and power touched, after correcting that the block was no longer hot (12V) but I still have no electrity.

Is it possible the wires crossing fried something? Is there a fuse blown that I am missing? Or can this be caused by something else all together? I am out of ideas. If anyone can help me, I would greatly appriciate it. Thanks in advanced.

Check the fusible link or fuse in the underhood fuse box. Is marked as fusible link box in that link. AM1 and AM2 wouldnt cause this problem.

After looking at your diagram I'm assuming you’re referring to the FL ALT fuse link, mine is the 1.25B since it originally is a non turbo vehicle. I never paid any attention to that because it was just a wire but now I see it is very corroded at the connectors and inside the wire insulation. Could that be my problem? I ordered another one which I will have Friday, I'm hoping that resolves my problem.

If you burn up the fusable link, it burned up for a reason.

So far I checked the alternator wires and everything is fine. I replaced the fusible link and I still have now power. I don't know if any relay will cause this problem, I don't think so but Im going to research that. An other Ideas, I'm lost.

Curious. Was it hard changing the link? What did you have to do?

It was until I figured out it doesn't just slide out. You have to detach that section of links from the rest by loosing the two clips on the side and pressing down the assembly. On the 1.25B link on the bottom you have to unsrew the two screws that keep the link attached, change the link and put the screws back in.

Ok, just checking to make sure you got it, and not just a fuse. Any resolution?
