No Electrical Power

I need help with my car, Ive been messing around with it and I failed.

Before I went to park my car over winter I ran into an electrical power problem. I didnt have power throughout the whole car. Instead of trying to figure it out I decided to push my car to my back yard, cover it and figure it out when winter was over.

Well now most of the snow is melted got motivated and decided to tackle this problem. Not to mention Im getting a Supra withdrawal and have to drive it soon...
I took my battery out and tested it and it came out bad. I was pumped, simple fix. Got it warrantied and went home.

When I installed the battery I checked the power cables and everything is perfect. Except that when I turned the key to start it all my gauges blinked on and then there was no power still.

My brother checked the fuses in the drivers kick panel and they all passed. I checked the ones in the engine bay and they pass. Is there something Im skipping and should check?

Im still going to go at it but I was hoping someone had the same problem before and could share their experience with it.

Thanks.

It does sound like a bad connection. A voltage drop test would confirm it. I remind you of the simple old school trick for checking the battery and it's connections: Turn on the headlights and crank the engine. If the lights dim the battery/ground connections are good and the battery itself is at fault. If the lights go completely out one or more connections are bad...

Replace all three battery cables. Doesn't matter how good they "look". Mine looked great, but the two going to the positive terminal were bad inside. It costs maybe $35 to replace all three 20 yr old cables? And, this issue drained my nice new battery very quickly. So once you get new cables, you may need to jump start your battery and let it run a good 30 mins to recharge.

Well guys thanks for the advice. I found the culprid andgot my Supra Fix.

I drove it and...Hmmm. Im sure going to miss my 86.5.

Thanks guys, Ill explain what was wrong later today and post a few pics at what the mess looked like. I will say though that I blame myself for not fixing this when it first happened...3 years ago when I first bought the car.

Please post what you did to fix it as a conclusion to the thread. That way, if people search and have the same problem, they can try what you tried! ;)

ok I will explain what happened. Just dont laugh at me... :)

Anyway when I first bought the car I blew my headgasket. So I started to do it...blah blah blah...Days after I started my car and fixed all the other bugs (I was a noob at the time..not that Im not now, but more so then.)

So when I wanted to go for a drive one day my lights flickered, looked like when a fuse burns. I would have found the problem a lot faster had I known of supramania (What would I do without you guys?:wtc:)

Anyway so a friend of my dads was a home mechanic and came over to help me out. We tracked down the problem down to the ALT 100A fuse. Only I didnt have a fuse there, I had a wire... I didnt know any better and thought thats how it came from factory but to this day I have yet to see another supra with the same little "jumper" cable.

Anyway, I made the same jumper that was there before. It worked...for 3 years.

Now the same thing happened and it was again that same "Jumper" cable where the ALT 100A fuse is supposed to go was the problem. But again, Credit to Supramania, I have become a little more knowledgeable about these cars that we love to hate sometimes. I took the Fuse from my 90 supra and installed it in my black car and I had power again.

So the conclusion and moral of this thread is. If you dont have power check the ALT 100A fuse in the "fusible Link" box inside the engine bay and DONT half ass anything in these cars...already everything breaks as it is.
and A lazy man works double. Do it right the first time.
I will post pictures of the burned ghetto wire.

Oh I was soo glad, I blew an intercooler hose. :-D

I of course got pretty pissed but luckily it was like a mile from an exit where there was a gas station with bright brand new spot lights. It looked like day light...then as soon as i parked the lights whent off and the station closed. I laughed and I said to myself...I miss driving this thing.

My Corolla is too dependable. My supra brings adventure. :p

BUT! My other supra buddies came to the rescue and brought me the 10mm socket and ratchet and a quarter to put the hose back on. ( the quarter was the phillips screw driver...)
