I just reinstalled my newly rebuilt ct26, and suprise the car still runs like crap and still smokes slightly. I think it may have something to do with the fact that I have no egr or block off plate(just a gaping hole) what would this cause? Also if I give it gas and let off it dies. I have an egr system but I don't even know where to start anyone have pics of the vac hose routing to the egr? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Talk about having a MAJOR vacuum leak with no block off plates or EGR in place. Get the EGR reinstalled and go from there.

So could this possibly be why my engine dies when I give it a moderate amount of gas then let off? I'm going to install the egr but need to get a few nuts, I also wanna get some brake cleaner and pipe cleaners and clean it out first. I would like to actually have it function but I guess that's step two.

your big gaping hole is definetely the cause of your problems. why would u think its ok to run your engine in this manor?

I just bought the car recently only drove it about 10 minutes to my house and its been sitting since. When i got it home i realized it was ghetto rigged like hell, every time i look in the engine bay i find more problems the guy i bought it from is an idiot. Im slowly getting it back to normal, i just had the turbo rebuilt and i just reinstalled it im gonna get some plugs tomorrow cause when the cars on it shakes a little, and this week im gonna put the egr on but i dont have the gaskets so would it be alright to use gasket maker?

Can't wait to see replys to this-----

I hope there are no replies to it at all. The thread needs to be shut down. There is already a multi page thread detailing anything anyone would want to know about the subject. It doesn't need to be brought up again.

I dont want to know the effects of running without an egr i wanted to know if my gaping hole was causing my problems and how to go about reinstalling my egr so no this thread does not need to be shut down. Next time maybe post something helpful.

a egr creates excessive heat in cyl #6

How so? Did Larry, Curly, or Moe tell you that?

EGR is inert gas. Yes it is hot, but still inert. It is put into the intake tract. This displaces usable air, causing a slight misfire compared to not having it. This lowers combustion temperatures, which lowers NOx, which is formed from high temps.

YES, that is a problem. Read the TSRM, cant remember if the upper intake has to come off, but the book will;)

Maybe you werent talking to me but you were suggesting that my thread be shut down, anyway the quesion at hand still is. Do you think gasket maker will work for my egr if used carefully?

By gasket maker are you talking about something like Liquid gasket? ie: the right stuff, toyota FIPG, etc?

If that's what you're referring to I sure wouldn't use it. Buy the gaskets, they're not that expensive. If you need a gasket for the EGR cooler I have one I'll sell ya.
