It all depends on your definition of better.

I have the v3 and it is WELL worth the money (still on sale at SS BTW).

The v3 is a work of art with all new parts and includes the dampener to keep the vibrations from going straight through to your hand. I was even tempted to figure out how to make a lower boot so I could still see the shiny shifter.

The NM shifter is a rework of the factory shifter. You either take your Supra offline and ship your shifter across the country or go out and buy another shifter to send it in for the rework. While not a lot extra, you do have to factor the shipping price of the shifter to NashMan in the price.

Both are made by Supra owners for Supra owners. Both offer "flick of the wrist" shifting. Both are somewhat adjustable to make the knob lower by hacking some metal.

For me "Better" is the v3. And if you act quickly the price difference is just a couple of trips to your favorite caffeene dealer.

Actually it's the sale for the v3 that got me interested. Like you said for a little bit more it sounded like you can't go wrong with the v3 as both shifters do provide what "short" throw shifting is designed for.

thanks.

MAN! I wish people could get this out of their heads. The "HACK JOB" has nothing to do with SOGI. That is like saying all of California is Disneyland.

Supras.com was the online home of SOGI but it also held a lot of other information. You don't call it the SONiC Shifter - I bet you forgot that SONiC was also found on Supras.com.

I have the SS shifter. It is better than stock, but it's not like the throws in the Nashman video. I didn't have another shifter to send to him or I would have bought his. He said he didn't have on either so I went with the SS one. It arrived at my door in like three days. Just my two cents worth.

a few words of caution: given the age of our transmissions, you'll find that some if not most have issues with any true short shifter....if you're trying to shift quickly (i.e. drag racing). yrs ago i ran a c's short shifter....and it caused me to CONSTANTLY miss shifts @ the strip. i threw it out and went back to the "hack job" mod. guess what? no missed shifts.

note that the v3 has a bit longer throw than the NM because of the above problems. lots of time and effort into that shifter, all new parts, etc.

DrJonez speaks the truth. If you are into any type of racing and need to make quick shifts then a short throw shifter is NOT for you.

Interesting thread... I didn't know about the problems with short shifters before.

Lets say our transmission has ~10k miles on it, I'd be able to run one either the NM or the SS shifters at the track with no problems right? My r154 shifted flawlessly all the time, every time.

honestly, given the age/design of the R154, i don't think it would ever shift perfectly w/a short shifter. try it and let us know!

again, this ONLY applies to those that use their cars in some sort of competition. for a DD or cruising car it shouldn't be a huge issue...

I haven't gotten my car to the track yet, (lots of work to do before that), but my NM shifter kicks ass! Takes some effort to shift (compared to my n/a W58 with sogi mod), but the gates are rock solid.

I recently sold my SS (Jim King) shifter to a member on this board. I am sure he is very happy with it. I reinstalled my original shifter that is in excellent shape and it just don't cut it. I'm sorry I sold it and it's on my repurchase list.
