Why did they design it so the metal on the edge of the crown near the intake valves is so incredibly thin?

From memory Probe didn't have the exact size cutter for the pockets and used one that was "near enough", this IS the limiting factor to why a 7M won't make the same ultimate power as a 2J, being such a small bore you can only squeeze xx size valves in before running out of room.
