Nice little crunch from the engine compartment...

Leaving work early today, I hear this crunch and a bunch of broken bits getting run over. Oh shit, pulled back into work-luckily I was just pulling out of the parking lot- parked and popped the hood. My fan shroud was GONE, I mean top to bottom and it took a couple of the fan blades w/ it. I picked all the little plastic shrapnel from the engine compartment. And thought about driving home, about 15 miles. I figured if I was moving on the freeway, Id be fine considering I hadnt slashed a coolant pipe. So even though I hit a couple of red lights, it never even got over halfway on the temp gauge. I was pleasantly surprised. Although apparently theyre both stealership only parts ($270 w/ friends disc.), but I think going new is worth it on a car with cooling problems designed in.

Anyway, will soon have pics of build- its some basic engine upgrades, mostly interior and paint&body. Just going for a reliable 300hp and be nice looking.

thought i was going to read about internal engine parts scattered on the ground! Good news it was only the fan. Any idea what the cause of that was? Was the shroud cracked or broken before?

Dude,

Just buy a good used fan, which you can find for like $20, and see if there is a local junk yard for the Shroud. I actually have one but haven't put it on my car in a long time. But I have a Koyo rad and new fan clutch.

I would have been more concerned with the fan being out of balance and destroying your water pump...

Call Jeff Watson at Champion Toyota (1-800-327-2087), and get a quote from him. Be sure to tell him your a member at Supramania, and I'll bet he'll give you better quote than $270.

Decepticon. No pics. Only in the planning phase now, but it's relatively simple. ;)

Hommer: that price isn't bad considering the cost of the two electric fans is pretty high...

The shroud is cheap, but getting the isolators (little rubber pieces on the bottom that stop it from rattling) is a bit of a pain.

I have a Koyo...and custom mounts to keep the shroud held down in the stock place with the isolators, and retain the aux. fans...
