I have been thinking of this for a long time, tearing my stock motor apart, and cryo treating the rods, pistons, rings, and the rotating assembly of the turbo. i brought it up in a thread about a month ago and the idea got shot down...BUT i finally figured out where i read about cryoing the turbo, the april issue in 04' in Turbo magizine... check it!!!!:biglaugh:

6 to 140 pulls is quite the leap in durability.

I dont understand how they say the exhaust housing is the foundation of the turbo though. i would think the center section is the foundation being its what contains all the moving parts.

Because it gets so hot, it can distort? I've seen pictures of turbos so hot, you can see THROUGH them and see the turbo blades spinning! I framed that picture actually where i use to work, it was on a porsche race car.

and if all of that turbo stuff is true from that sheet, if you were to cryo treat a regular turbo that a lot of us use, especially the 57trim and other upgraded ct-26... then it might help with the balancing problems associated with those turbos.

but it was a good read, i wouldnt mind doing it if i had the money...

Should i trust the info if the artcle that has a PC in the pics thats older than me?

cryo treating works pretty well, i had a ford 306 guesstimate at 600hp on motor, that turned 11,000 rpm. lasted close to 1000 laps (1/2 season) before throwing a bearing and after a quick prep it was ready to go again.

if i had the money to do it, i would get every piece in all of my motors cryo'd. i can't remember the place off the top of my head but the ones that did my motor are in atlanta

You cannot get steel hot enough to be transparent...it isn't glass. What you might be seeing is local cool spots caused by the turbine. Otherwise, I think some photo doctoring went down.
