Gamestop isn't an ideal job if you're done with basic schooling (ie. high school). It's more for people still in school and are looking for some pocket money, cuz here in Houston, or maybe Texas for that matter where the HQ is located in Grapevine, Texas, pay is shitty at minimum wage ($5.15/hr) for Game Advisors (GA). If you can get yourself promoted to Senior Game Advisor (SGA), you make $7.50/hr, Assistant Store Managers (ASM) make 9.50/hr and Store Managers (SM) make a salary of $28K a year. You can get a raise every three months or so depending on how well your numbers are. Ideally they're looking for you to make no less that two items per transactions (IPTs) and at least 14% of your transactions should be game reservations and 8% should be subscriptions. It's a lot of effort, but if you know how to word things and convince people, those should be easy sales. But raises also depends on what kind of person your SM is. If he/she is really cool and laid back like mine, they'll try their best to get you raise if they see that you really are trying and your number are about where they should be. Another thing is, if you're hired as a GA, you have sets hours during the day that you can work. Weekdays is from 5-closing, all day Sunday, and Saturdays are pretty much free unless your SM or ASM calls you in asking if you can work.
Aside from that, you get some perks. 15% employee discount and 50% at Barnes & Nobles, you get to take home one console game to try out for 4 days as long as it's not the last copy in the store. Can't take home PC games, or game consoles though and depending on how cool your SGAs, ASMs, and SMs are, if there is absolutely nothing left to do in the store while there aren't any customers, you can feel free to load any game into the demo station and play all you want. After all, it is your job to know what some games are about to help answer questions.
As for Halo3, wanna put $5 down to reserve your copy?
haha. help my numbers...
