Alright, I currently have an 86.5 5 spd 7mge. Soonish going to be getting a 7mgte. Was wondering what year wiring harness I would need to get? I would take a guess and say 87. But I want to make sure! Thanks.

Depends on the engine, and ecu that you use...you need to use it all from the same year to make it easy...87 and 88 ar the same half of 89 is too....the other half of 89 to 92 is the same....then again I have a 91 harness in an 87 ;).....I rewired the whole thing :(

Yah as stated above, keep it all the same, ecu/harness. but a perk for you, your injector resistor pack from the 86.5-88 7M-GE is the same as the 7M-GTE.

Use a wiring harness that matches the year span of your car. Stay away from '89 ECU's and wiring harnesses. You want an 87-88 Turbo wiring harness and ECU. It doesn't matter whether you use a 5-speed or auto ECU, ONLY if you're a 5-speed! And a 5-speed harness is preferable, but an auto harness WILL work.

If you're swapping in a motor from an '89+ car, you'll need to either A) swap a few sensors, or B) re-wire a few plugs on the harness, which is easy because the only ones that are different are one-wire plugs. ;)

If by some chance you get a different harness and ecu to your motor the only difference is sensors. Yellow connectors is 87-early 89 and grey connectors is 89- 92. just a couple more facts.
