just picked it up this afternoon. definitely fun. 40.2cc, not as powerful as i woulda liked but still have to keep it light for around the house, teaching my brother to use one. with a 16 inch bar, itll still keep up with the best of them harvesting firewood. anyone else here in the forestry business?

Stihl makes a good saw.
My father has a Husquavarna 51cc that we've had for 10~ish years.... talk about reliable.. Stihl's are just as good.

Countdown to Clip's "So, I went to the hospital today..." thread. ;)

had a friend that worked in the forestry industry...ill have to find his vids. its f'ing awesome cause hes got a machine that grabs the tree and sends something shooting up the trunk shearing the branches off, then cuts it to size.

I like the "keep back 300 feet" on the side of the arm in that pic ahahaaa. It looks like a beast tho. I can imagine splinters flying outward in a 300ft radius.

no, not a feller buncher. those are cutters and jaws mounted on a skidder, arent they?

Okay, yeah. A feller buncher grabs the trunk and cuts it, then flips the tree on its side and takes the branches off and cuts to length as it goes through the pinch rollers holding it.

I'd like to see the video of what you're talking about - it's new to me, but the forestry department in college was 10 years ago.

after hours of searching, finally found it. my fault, i was always thinking that a feller buncher was the skidder mounted jaws on the front. anywho

that certainly doesnt look like 300 feet.

its an excavator fitted with a risley 'rotary saw slingshot' head, guys in the business just call em harvesters.

googled feller buncher and heres what i came up with, thats what i always called a feller buncher

Why didn't you get the 088?? Wussy. :)

The 023C's are great little saws. Problee a 12" bar with a 3/8 "pico" chain. The quick adjust chain tensioner. Good stuff. All for about $150 or so.

Used to sell those things back in college.

Hmm. I didn't think those 023s where that large. Maybe they are bigger than what I rememeber. I was thinking the 026 got you into the bigger (.325) chain.

That's been 5 years ago too. I'm sure they've made product changes in that time.

Those chaps are awesome. You can run the saw at full tilt, and dive it into those chaps, and they'll stop the saw almost instantly. My boss was at a demo where a guy put a set on a log and touched them with the chain at full bore. The chaps kinda fall apart and jam up the chain on the saw. Stops it instantly.

Remember there's a chain brake on those too. Sooooo many people forget about that and brought the saws into the store compaining of the chain not moving. After a few more questions from us, we have the girl at the register pull the brake back, and we'd go outside and start it. :)

Enjoy it.. they are the best built saws going today.
