Hi all, Recently picked up an '89 turbo that had thrown a rod for $300. It came with a complete spare engine, including the turbo and all the manifolds.

I'm currently having the engine cleaned and checked at the local machine shop that handles the Toyota dealerships work. I'm still looking for a torque plate so that they can start boring it- if anybody knows where I could rent one, or even better borrow one, I'd be grateful.

Supras are a lot of work and time, keep that in mind. And tracking down problems is a pain if you don't have a manual.

My advice for a new Supra owner.
1. ALWAYS keep a 10, 12, and 14mm socket and wrench available at all times.
2. If you have any problems read the online TSRM
3. If you want this to be reliable, be prepared to enter a dark hole of a money pit

You got a hell of a deal for 300$. Remember you can always part it out and make over a 700$ profit.

wow...good deal...and congrats!!
doesn't look bad from the 1 pic...what condition is she in?

There are some minor dents and such from door dings and parking lots. One decent sized one on the left rear quarter. The drivers seat will need to be recovered, and some of the controls are faded a bit. Otherwise she's in great shape (except for the motor :icon_bigg ). The guy I bought it from had divorced his wife recently, and he just wanted it gone- he even helped me load the spare engine.

The machine shop called me this morning, and it looks like the spare wasn't in to bad a shape, so they are proceeding with everything but the boring and honing on the cylinders.

this an old thread, but man you got a pretty good deal there IMO. im lookin for a 7mgte atm... where in texas are you?

I'm about 20 miles south of Amarillo. But I've only seen one other MK3 in this area, a white N/A. As far as I know I'm the only running turbo Mk3 in the panhandle. :sarcasm:
