Hi guys/Gals, Thought I'd introduce myself, I live in Hagerstown, Maryland, I have a 1991 Toyota Supra Turbo, I had her put away in storage couple years back after my ex-wife bashed Supra' hatch window and front windshield all to hell. Now i have the time and money again so I decided to pull her back out, thus far i've searched the forums and found great amount of tech info, and much more I didn't know. I'll have pics posted up on here tomorrow...shes far from prefect but shes paid for...Thanks for the great site and hope to learn a lot more Thanks Matt:biglaugh:

Thanks, lol, yea she definitely did a number....she did a good number on a lot of things on the car, I'm rebuilding my 7m right now, hopefully me my buddies have the bottom end back together tomorrow, When i first got the car in 2000, didn't know a dang thing about the car, i just saw "Supra" and " Turbo" on the rear trim, and I had to have it, seen plenty of MKIV's thats it...Its been a good mostly reliable car for me. I'd take it over my Camaro any day of the week. So Sold Camaro..lol.

i have to saw I've heard a lot of good things about the 2j motor, and the 1j's..those engines are powerhouses, I've had many problems with 7mgte rod knock(x2) and seen a lot of guys on this site complain of the same XXX of their 7mgte engines and others have had no problems its definitely hit of miss, glad to have found this site though, head gasket, I have considered 1j swap into mine, basically came here to find out more about the 1j and everything needed...so far found a lot of intel on it,

I've never done a 1J swap personally, but after doing a 2J swap I can't really see how it would be terribly much easier. At least when swapping into a MA70 plateform as was the case for me. However, if you are swapping a 2J into a JZA70 I could see how this may be a small bit easier considering it will have alot of the more current plugs and such.

But I have not done a 1J so my guessing is purely speculation.

As far as robust levels, I would say the 2j is a more robust motor and has the advantages of benefitting from everything they learned when they made the 7m and 1j. However the 7m isn't a bad motor at all and any motor will fail if mistreated, installed incorrectly, poorly maintained etc.

But the 2j does have nicer water jackets, more exhaust studs (if you plan on hanging heavier turbo's off it) and many other benefits you'll find when searching through here. My biggest recommendation is to do TONS of research on everything you can here and elsewhere.

You'll find the people here more than super helpful more often than not. But always search first.

I know for a fact my first 7m that had a rod failure that was absolutely all me, i was 17-18 and was really hard on the car, but learned real quick. I'd love to swap a 1j or the 2j probably more so the 2j... I'm going to work with what I have. If have anymore problems with 7m motors its time for new set-up. Thanks for all the info, I'll definitely refer to it if i decide to go that route. :drink1:
