Reminded me of a Tenacious-D song.
One is all you need.

NPR makes an exellent ring. Most aftermarket piston like Arias, JE, and others use this rings.

How do I know this you ask? Well after having issues with JE and a set of rings they provided, I went to the NPR warehouse to pick some up. JE sucks as a company and they sent me to Arias to get rings for JE pistons because Arias cares for the little people like the JE tech told me over the phone! :nono: :wtf: They gave me the wrong rings, they change the piston design and didn't bother to change the rings and Arias has to clean up after them. I hate JE they suck and I hope they go out of business! :rant2:

are they worth it???

Yes, they're a good product, like soapra said.
Actually it's pretty cheap for a set of good rings.
But if you're worrying on $50.- of your rebuild budget, you better not start rebuilding an engine. You always run into stuff that needs replacing when you get to it, which can vary your rebuild price with a couple of hundred bucks.
At least buy a full headgasket set and put in a new oil pump.

Stay way from those.

Bad experience? Maybe good to share.

(btw, the motor shop which I use for my engine has good experiences with JE, probably because they're a high volume customer)

My machinist deals with all the brands of pistons in high volume. My reasons are personal and also with quality control. I must say that I trust what the machine shop says; they built the engine on Jay Leno's 1931 Duesenberg J. They didn't make many of them and only four are left in the world. It has a strait 8 twin cam with 4 valves per cylinder. The block was appraised at 1.5 million. I'm sure if you had a machine shop in your home town that built engines for top fuel cars and also had the machines that can take care of a 1.5 million dollar block you would trust they experience on pistons.

They helped me fix the issues with the JE pistons. The stock rods wouldn't fit on them with out machining part of the inside of the piston. There was another machine shop that did the work and they installed the rods on the pistons with out checking this issue. Let’s just say I will never go back there.

On the Top line rings:

I'm sure they will work just fine, but on a 1jz, use a high quality ring. Top line is the cheapest of them all, and they are not that great. At some point you must ask if you really feel comfortable with those rings on a car you will beat on? I much rather buy a used JDM motor and run that instead. :naughty:

It's not the $50 I'm worried about but I've gotten a lot of mixed points of view on Supramania! I'm just looking for a good amount from people I can trust!
