After half a year or testing, I am now ready to release these torque converters for the mk3 a340. I will be offering these for sale in the misc. vendors section. This is a fully rebuilt and re-stalled factory converter. The stall has been raised from the wimpy 1600-1800 to 3000 rpm. I will have these in stock and ready to ship, so no waiting or downtime. Knock a full second or better off your 1/4 mile time. I have the proto-type in one of my cars for half a year now with many many passes down the 1/4 mile with no problems. This converter is easy on the street and drives much like near stock. Price will be posted in the vendor section. Thank you for looking!

Rich

hell yea! havent swapped a torque converter before, wut are the procedures for starting the car after install, i'd assume it has to fill with fluid and create pressure before it could be driven.

When you install an new converter, it will be bone dry inside. When the tranny is still pulled back from the motor, and you have the converter bolted to the flexplate, fill the converter untill fluid runs out the back. Then install the tranny again, flushed with new fluid. Run the car at idle and top off the fluid. While still at idle, put the car in each gear one at a time for 5 seconds, once you reach 1st gear, go back up to park the same way. Check your fluid again. Drive normal to warm the tranny up to operating temps, check fluid again.

a higher stall converter will really help at the track for sure. 3000 is still pretty mild so shouldnt have that "slipping clutch" feel street driving.

just be sure you guys add a large tranny cooler if you havent already when running a looser converter.

FYI - the stock stall speed on the turbo 340E is 2500 rpm:

A 3000 rpm stall converter is not a huge increase...I have one and it is great for street use. You can hold the brake, rev the motor to 3000 rpm, and launch with the turbo already spooled. I've had no slippage issues with my 3000 rpm stall converter.

This is true, the full dead stall is 2500 on the stock converter. If you look right below the print in your link, you will see the value that I use. the 18 to 1900 rpm. This is the rpm the stock converter really wants to start pushing the car. To get 2500, you need to really stomp the hell out of the brakes. My converter will shoot to 22-2500 just by hitting the gas pedal with no brake. I can do 3000 rpm with little effort on the brake pedal. it will do more if you want to set the e-bake and stomp the brake as hard as you can like it suggests in the link you provided. By this standard you could call my converter a 3200 or 3400 stall. But I call it a 3000 to be more realistic.

ive found that torque converter stall will greatly vary due to torque, traction, and brakes. what one guy can stall at 2500 another may be able to stall at 3000.

i think on the stock converter i could usually get about 2800 rpm out of it at the track if i got everything perfect. and ive found over the years stock converters are a range. ive seen some tighter than others.

as far as the slippage, there shouldnt be much w/ this one. i was talking about the one i have now which is over 4k stall. it takes quite a bit of throttle to get the car moving and will flash stall at 5100 rpm. thats why i made the comment of this 3000 stall will make an improvement at the track while still having good street manners.

id highly recommend a higher stall converter to anyone that wants to drag. being able to launch at higher rpm and building more boost at the line is huge.

Yes, the stall speed of any torque converter is largly dependent on the amount of torgue it receives. I would say that with a stock or upgraded ct this converter will take a full second off your 1/4 mile time.

Sure do, I have one in stock, the one in stock is a 3200 ish stall.
At tx2k7 I put over 30 full power passes in two days on one of my converters.
I would say that there is over 150 1/4 mile passes on the one in my car. They cost more on e-bay than they do here, damn e-bay fees are killing me.

I do hybrid gm/toyota converters that have a smaller billet back half on it that can be stalled up to 6500 rpm and handle more power than any 7m has ever made. I would rate the one in stock to handle 600 hp.

Hey Rich,

What kind of power will the built a340 hold? I see you're into the 11s on a stock turbo. What kind of boost? What was your setup? Nitrous? Lightened supe? What kind of power are you putting down? Id put a built a340 back in my 88 if I knew it would hold. 3200 stall with a line lock would mean a great leave!!!
