I had an 86.5 model naturally aspirated 5 speed. I recently have the opportunity to get an 1989 MK3 with the 7MGTE engine, but its auto.
Is it impossibly hard or fairly reasonable to change it to a 5speed?, 6speed?. Oh its a turbo, butI don't know which one. Have been trolling for a while now. Just thought Id introduce myself.
Oh and whats a good deal price wise? He wants like $3,500 Thanks

As for not knowing which turbo. Did you mean which version of turbo model, as far as 7m or 1j, or did you mean, which turbo in itself like brand, trim, A/R, etc.
As far as price.....Not sure. Without knowing many details of the car, it could be a good deal, it might not be. If it is a low mileage, stock, in very good condition car, sure, $3500 isn't bad. It seems a little high, but I've seen higher.

5-speed = Not too hard.
6-speed = Yeah right

The Getrag transmission won't bolt up to the back of a 7M, ever. Swapping in an R154 is a good idea, but the auto ECU limits the boost iirc.

Thanks, well deal fell through so I'm still looking I guess. I now can look for a real 5 speed.
