I'm new so hello to all of you. I just bought a 91 supra turbo. The previous owner took good care of it and the car runs great. Drove it 1200 miles including 500 miles in a single day trip to the coast last week and didn't have a single issue. He put a catback exhaust on it along with a HKS SSQ Blow off valve. It sounds nice and part of the reason I bought it. The only issue I'm having is that sometimes when I get on it and let off quick, for example just speeding to a stop, It wants to shut off when I let off the gas. If I push it and keep going and let it coast such as speeding on the highway I have no problem when I finally come to a stop. Another thing I would like to point out is that it does it when its low on gas sometimes, not empty, more like hovering around a 1/4 tank. Also it backfires when I shift sometimes on boost. I did some research on the HKS BOV and it said it causes it to go rich in between shifts because it doesn't recirculate the air or something and that it is good for high boost/power applications. It also explains the backfires. I wonder does this rich condition also causes it to want to shut off instead of idling. This is my First Real Turbo car I've owned. I always liked mk3s and I finally had the chance to get one. My other car is a 93 Toyota Corolla. Theres the big difference.

vented bov = stalling issues (but not everybody has them) and backfires!

my friend has a vented bov on his eclipse and it likes to stall a lot! but i think its cause its a 2.0... haha

you should put up some pictures of the car, it sounds like you got yourself a keeper!

Thanks for the welcome

as an owner of an uncirculated HKS SSQV i can assure you, it will stall out on stock conditions. However, if you throw is a tuning device (personally im using SAFCII) the stalling will cease on even a half decent tune.

Makes sense to me. I'll be looking into that when I get some more money. Thanks

Get a 3" downpipe, 3" elbow and no cat to go with that catback exhaust! You will be amazed at the power increase. our elbow/downpipe chokes off the turbo.

Before you do any of that stuff, check the torque on your head bolts. Tighten them down to 76 ft/lbs if they're the stock Toyota bolts.

After that, enjoy car. 3" exhaust, enjoy car more. Wastegate shims or a MBC, enjoy car even more!
