How's it going fellas. Well for starters i own a 1989 toyota Supra Targa Turbo (7MGTE). Been looking for a place that will provide me with some information on DIY and it looks like this is the place. As far as my engine. Its a Stock 7mgte with a stock CT26, Not much has been done too it yet, besides a stage 2 clutch. Maybe you guys can be of some help. Im looking for a base guide to start off of. I want to build this 7mgte, i know everyone goes a step higher and goes with a 1j, or 2jz. What would be something that i can start with to make a little more power? I'm upgrading my entire cooling system soon including the intercooler. Eventually i want to get all forged internals for this engine completely build this 7m. Any information would be much appreciated.

Hey, welcome.

First easy power upgrade is turbo back exhaust/boost controller/maybe intake. Don't worry about the intercooler right off the bat. There's plenty more info on a good upgrade sequence, just search around.

Your wheels look a little squished in. Looks like the offset might not be right? A 7-8" wheel should have around 35-40mm offset and yours looks like its a lot more than that and therefore pulls the wheel in. Might just be an optical illusion from your pics, but I'd get those wheels traded out for a proper fitment wheel if I'm not crazy about the offset.

what's the ideal wheel size one should go with? I'm running a 3 inch magnaflow exhaust already, but its still has the cats. Boost controller i have yet to buy. How much boost can i run on a stock turbo?

Wheel size is mostly your preference. IMO 17x8 is the ideal size for a daily with anywhere near factory power. Of course, with a 35-40mm offset.

Re exhaust: switching out the cats and downpipe can make a big difference. Also, pay attention to the turbo elbow. The factory elbow is a restriction.

You can run 11-14 psi before fuel cut. Fuel cut is where you're starting to flow more air than the ECU can handle. I run 8 psi (low) and ~11 psi (high) because my intercooler piping starts to pop off beyond that. If you want to play it safe, I'd aim for 10 psi and slowly work up from there.

You should also have an aftermarket boost gauge once you start playing with boost. The stock gauge is horribly delayed and inaccurate beyond the top end of the gauge (which I think is 8psi?).

Ok thanks man! that info is much appreciated. I think im going to do that tomorrow, switch out my cat and downpipe. I already have a boost gauge coming so definitely going to buy a boost controller next. I was looking into some XXR's 521 really like the style of them so maybe that will be my next purchase down the line.

Just added a Garage door lip today. Found out im leaking Coolant somewhere so i might look into before i start messing with the boost. Want to keep it as cool as possible.
