just bought my supra, it is my second supra(had one way back in high school)
it is a automatic, turbo targa model. and is a true survivor....90000 miles and 1 owner. absolutely unmolested stock.

i have a few questions,

1. i have a lot of flex with the top off, does anybody make a bolt in 4 point or 6 point bar?

2. my top has a stripped front bolt, anybody have a fix...or an extra top?

3. anybody make a replacement leather cover for the front seats?

thanks in advance
jeremy

ps i am a former factory race tech for nissan so im very mechanically inclined

1. Normal. Reason is that the Targa is part of the structural integrety of the car. Even though Toyota put some meaty frame braces it is still not enough for the flexing that you felt.

2. Stripped bolt... hmm.

Part # is 63230A. Toyota might have changed part number so call Toyota on that one.

3. Check out Katzkin. They make a kit for our car if you want to do the reupholstery yourself!

First of all, congrats on the buy. Nice condition and all like that will pay off in the long run.

Now to your questions:

You will have to search the forum, but yes they make them. Just recently someone on here has made a new one, so you may want to check into that.

I wouldn't think you would have to buy an all new top, but maybe you would. I have a hardtop personally, but if needed you could post a WTB thread in the "Parts Wanted" section, you can probably find a top rather easy.

I had the same question. My answer didn't come from here however. I was talking to a restore shop (Interior, Body & Paint Shop). I elarned from them that they do make natural covers for our seats, for 89+ models, that can then be sown in by an alterations specialists, but you need to make sure that want you want is what you want, because they would costs 1,300 beans and once they are ordered and made they can't be returned. Atleast that was the answer I recieved. So I'm not sure if you'd be able to buy them outright yourself, but reference a shop near you.

Hope these answers helped you out.

You pretty well have to make one your self. I made the simple bars out of conduit piping for about $3. It helped a little but not a lot.

that thing is clean!!!!!!!!!!11

red is definatly my second favorite choice in color. also you can't go wrong with anything above 89 that looks that dam good. only draw back is it's not a 5spd, but that tends to mean who ever origianlly bought the car didn't do with the intent to drive the shit out of it like its a race car. so the motor in there i'm sure is pretty strong. i bought a low mile used auto motor and it was in hella nice condition. when i pulled the head off the cylinder looked perfect. i'm sure thats the case with you motor. just swap in a r154 and your golden. :naughty:

A few on here have the Weasel-wing bolt in bar which does a good job of reducing body flex with the targa off and which looks pretty sharp. They're hard to come by though.

The bolt and spring for your targa are available through Toyota, just a couple-three bucks. Or you can find a targa in a junkyard and pull the bolt-housing and bolt off of it. Two 12mm bolts, no biggie.

Don't know of anyone making leather covers.

it is the threads in the top, not the bolt...i think im gonna need a top.

although im just considering making a mold and going dry lam carbon fiber. it would shave a few lbs. but then id need to recoup cost by selling a few.

as for the rollbar, i am thinking of making a bolt in t-top type bar to reduce the flex with the top out. it would be made of steel at first, then i would shape and mold it after a test period to see if it works.

That's not a problem either. The receptacle the bolt screws into is removable just like the bolt housing assembly. Just gotta pull the trim away a little bit to get the bolts loose which hold the assembly on. If you need one just let me know as I picked up a couple of them the last time I came across a targa Supra in a junkyard.

Don't know that much about rollbars in Supra's myself, but this is definately the place to ask.

took it for a 140 mile drive today, learned a few things i dont like. my valve covers leak, the oring on the cas is also leaking. both are easy fixes. and i have a shake at 100 mph
gonna have to balance the tires. and the brakes squeel when warm....

wish i could go to toyota and buy a 0 mile mkIII supra. id pay the original sticker price that i could not afford when i was 16... i really would!

but overall im really happy with this car. took it through some twisties as well, gonna have to get on that 5spd/6spd swap(wonder if a gm 6spd richmond would fit in our tunnel as i have seen gm tranny adaptor plates)
