Hello, I'm new from texas, I own a 90 MKIII turbo, and then she died with BHG and rod knock at the same time. So I'm still contemplating on whether I'm 1j/2j. I know I don't want to deal with the 7m again, and I noticed a lot of ppl on SM (unlike SF) go na-t with 7m electronics.

welcome to SM what part of TX are you from, maybe were close? I like my 7m it had 254k miles before i decided to tear it down for a rebuild, the 7m has been reliable to me. but if i was you i would do a 2j NA-T swap. i might do that with the parts car supra in the back yard.

Houston checking in here.

That sucks with what happend to your Supra, IMHO though i believe any engine is just as open to get a BHG and rod-knock, so i honestly cant blame the 7M as the only engine that will get it in the Supra world. If you look in the 1JZ/2JZ tech section there should be info on the NA-T 7M Electronics.

welcome to supramania. We are better over here... vs s.f. (I think) What part of texas are you in. I am in houston. Wether you decided to go J series or keep the 7m (I prefer the 7m), you chose a good car.

Wow, this has been the best welcome I've EVER gotten on a forum. Lol, well I own(ed) a few cars, and I'm not trying to toot my own horn or anything, but I love cars. My entire has a love for cars; my father owns a turbo'ed S2, a SC'ed NSX, my sister and her husband owns a TRD SC tC (her car believe it or not), and he is on his way to a IS-F. My brothers (there are a lot of them) one has a k20 CRX, and a s14 w/ a rb20 (ugh) but he's moving to a 1j! My other brother Jas has an EK hatchback w/a k20 type-r running a 75 shot, his wife has a (basically stock w/ a lip kit drop and wheels) IS300, and the oldest of my brothers has a turbo'ed prelude.

So yeah to sum it up, we have an automotive family. All my brothers are in the military, my father and I run a small mechanic shop, my sister...well she's my sister that's on her way of starting a family. So pretty happy automotive family haha

Currently I own; my black RHD FD3S, finally got her running after sitting for eight months, my daily driver SC400, my s13 convertible KA-T, and I bought my supra for cheap! 1000 bucks, then she poop'ed on me. However it's not my first time working on a MKIII though, I've had a few that had BHG's, and rod knock, so it seems to me that the 7m is more prone to BHG and rod knock.

I like a lil bit of both types of cars, we (as a whole family) have some torque cars and some highway brawlers. I really want to go 2j because there aren't any where I'm at. Most guys around here don't even know what a MKIII is lol, it's mainly keyboard drifters (240 guys that CLAIM to drift, but there a few that actually do, but for the most part), and honda's (VTEC is the shit y0 types, and the handful of fast ones). I just like cars, mainly japanese cars, I don't really hate or dislike anything, I feel that every manufacture has their own weapon (so to speak), I just hate the pigheaded people of the automotive culture. There are many Toyota people that are like that (SF comes to mind), I'm just an enthusiast trying something new, and I hope that I have a long stay here (SM) because it's rich in information, and a lot of friendliness!!

Sorry for the long post! I'm over by Austin, specifically Killeen, a small army town.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

Welcome aboard! Glad to see another Texas member! (North Houston here!) I'm sure you'll find this to be a much more "friendly" enviroment than "other" forums. :D

Lots of good info here. I believe "yankiwi"(?) was doing 2Jz na-T here in a build thread. Search his screenname and check it out.

Welcome to SupraMania. If money is not an problem, definitely go with a 2JZ. However, they're expensive, I am currently building a 2JZ car and everything seems to be twice the cost of a 7M. A properly built and maintained 7M will serve you very well for many, many years.

We'll probably have another Hill Country cruise in November, hopefully we'll see you then.

Hey guys I'm at the airport waiting for my plane to arrive, I'm coming back from vacation. Man cali weather is great! It's nice and cool, I saw a couple of MKIII's, but what really caught my eye was this super clean Cressida! I saw it when I was in Little Tokyo in LA. Man, I'd love to build a 7M Cressida 5 speed!

Anyway thanks for the continued welcome guys! I'd love to meet you guys soon, I might be going out to the meet that's listed in the SF thread on the 25th. Anyway here are some pics!!

Update on the MKIII, we've got a 2j-ge from a SC300, I'll upload some pics later when I get home hopefully! We already got the HKS intake cam ordered, GReddy T-belt, and a few other things on order, got some tanabe df210's on order, and waiting on the tokico struts (compatiable with TEMS) to come in too!

My pop told me he's got the head off, and he's going to try to put in 2jz-gtte valves into the 2j-ge.

What are you guys using for intake manifolds?

yeah I've heard about that too, but I checked in with the DMV, and they said I didn't have anything to worry about (shrug), I highly doubt that I'd sell that car anyway, I love it too much. Something about it, I used to hate them from stories I heard and whatnot, but after driving mine around and not having it flood out on me, I'm pretty happy. You just need to know about rotors, you can't just drive them like normal cars, that's where the horror stories go
