ok well i have two ideas i have for a new exhaust for my supra... to start off with i live in a small town where cops WILL pull you over and give you a ticket for your exhaust but i work in a town where the cops have other things to worry about besides my exhaust.

idea #1. take an aftermarket exhaust and add a butterfly valve that would make it the same restricion as a stock exhasut when close and best for performance when opened. butterfly would be a smaller diameter than exhaust pipe so air would be able to flow by it when closed.

idea #2. leave the stock exhaust on and add a butterfly leading off the exhaust with a pipe that would make for best performance when opened and stock when closed.

any thoughts on diameter of piping and anything else would be great... if any of the shop guys/vendors have any ideas i would love to hear them too.

EDIT: i already have a cat delete. TMS test pipe

Get an aftermarket exahust with a resonator/2nd muffler in it, and dont act like a jackass and give the cops a reason to pull you over.

well the funny part is is that i had a resonator on it and come on now... i dont drive like a jackass... i would stay at one speed that thing was loud... they will just sit there and if they hear your car you get pulled over pretty much. the cop cars by me say "traffic enforcement" its that bad.

your from florida... ever been to the NSB/edgewater area?

2nd idea would be much easier to do since you can buy a cut out and just need to wield it on your exhause somewhere. Preferably before the cat. What is the one exhaust that looks just like the stock exhaust made by hks? I really want to get that

Assuming you aren't acting liek a jackass and bringing attention to your self, put a better resonator on it. In reality you should put a 2nd muffler on it, something like this http://store.summitracing.com/partd...WLK%2D17744&N=700+300490+115&autoview=sku

I dont see how it is that loud to be honets. I had a 3.5" glass pack resonator to an apexi n1 canister and it was quiet at idle/cruising.

I've never been in that area.

I say get a cheap 3" exhaust, find a "stock style" twin tip muffler...
(You know, the ones that are flat in color and aren't shiny),
Weld that on...

And your silly traffic enforcement officers will have yet the slightest thought that it's aftermarket...............And you still won't hurt your performance.

I read your post....Thought,

"Neat. That's just like the way it is around here".

....Rolled my eyes to the left just to see you're from Indianapolis as well. ;)

Indiana, I assume? I know there's acouple other Indianapolis' in the US but are small cities.

for whatever reason around like 3000RPMs it would be damned loud... i looked at what i had again, it was a high flow resonator with like 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 piping... i was going a state trooper checkpoint in orlando/bithlo and at idle and just rolling they had me pull off to the side... that looks like it would work well... how is the performance on that?

EDIT: do you think 3'' piping on a n/a would be to much? i know mine like a little bit of back pressure yet.

take a look at the threads in the NA area, backpressure has been covered extensively

Run a cat (unless you're running leaded gas there is no reason not to run one), get a good resonator and muffler and be done.

I love my Raptor Racing exhaust, 3" metal core spun cat and 3" exhaust with resonator and modified magnaflow muffler. It's quieter than the crap that was on before which was the stock cat, stock catback cut before the resonator with mild steel piping back to a glasspack for a muffler.

ok after hearing from you all and reading through the NA tech section i think what i might do is go with twin mufflers and 3'' piping. sound good?

last question is should i run a stock cat or a high flow cat?

EDIT: im looking for a little noise not a whole lot... hopefully i will get it with this setup

If you're N/A, go with smaller piping and get more mufflers...

The turbo acts as a muffler by itself, it's why you can get away with a straight pipe on a turbo car to some extent...

My bro's MKII with alsmot the same exact setup as mine but with smaller piping is much louder than mine. If I'm boosting it's another story (DDP)

so if not 3'' i guess i should probably go with 2.5'' and twin mufflers. you never answered about the cat... stock or high flow? this is gonna be a fun project

Up to you... I went with a high flow metal core as it's not as fragile as the ceramic ones. If your stocker isn't clogged, run it.

That alone might quiet it down enough.
