I guess once you take it apart, you will find out what went wrong. I assume you checked the block and head for cracks? Let us know what you find.

Does coolant pour out of the oil pan as you pour it into the radiator? A member on here had the same problem recently, and it turned out that there was a problem with the freeze plug on the front of the block. If that is missing youre going to drain coolant directly into the crankcase

I do remember a couple of plugs on the back side of the block that do get removed for cleaning but people forget to install that may cause your oil/coolant issues.

This is a no BS story, but I once bought an 87 that the owner had similar problems after replacing the HG himself. When I pulled the head he had put the HG on BACKWARDS!
I know it doesn't really apply to your situation, just a little LOL
Good luck, hope it isn't too serious.

well pulled the sump off today the coolant leaking round the oil pump was already not a good start ( still looking for reasons for no oil pressure at this stage)

removed front timing cover to check frost plugs ect were there (they were) but there was also a lovely rust trail leading from the headgasket

removed the head and the bores were full of water so next step is to try figure why it didn't seal.

im at work atm but can post pics ect when I get home also have a couple of q's about arp studs too

one thing that seemed odd with the arp's do you have yours will the hex hole at the top or in the block?

I was under the impression that thas was ment to be facing out to make it easy to remove them from the block.

but when you turn them the otherway around there is alot more useable thread to torque the nuts down with was wondering if maybe they bottomed out and gave a false reading?? (ive had a fair amount removed from the block I thing not sure exactly how much)

also any thoughts on re-using a MHG? have read that people remove the old coating and then spay with copper spray??

The ARP's are meant to have the hex head pointing upwards. You use a hex key to get them tightened up before you torque them down.

I also reused my wife's metal head gasket. I did remove the other coating from it and I sprayed the piss out of it with copper spray. It worked perfectly so if this isn't how you're suppose to do it, I don't want to know about it.

Good luck. Is your car a manual or auto? Just make sure you don't have any cooling lines crossed with any oil lines.

I honestly stared at my HG for a few minutes checking to make sure I had the orientation correct just to avoid that type of problem lol. Lucky it all worked out for me.
