New Alternator and won't charge! Help Please!

Ok guys I have an 87 Supra with a 1JZ swap and a single turbo. I had a starting problem and decided to take the intake off to clean it and inspect it. I didn't get too far until I found out you have to disconnect about 75% of the harness. So I put it back together and just changed the plugs and bam it started right up. The car runs fine but won't charge up. I took the old alternator off and had it tested. It was bad so I bought a new one and installed it and the same thing is happening. The car had no problems before i tried to take the intake off. I have triple checked all the wires and have only found 2 that are possibly the problem one is a single black wire that looks to connect to the starter, but the problem is I don't see were it would and the second one is a rectangular box with 2 big yellow resistors on it. Only one side is connected, but I can't find any other connector that would work for the other side. I hope this is enough info and some one can help me out. Thanks

couple things

1. Check and double check all of your grounds.

2. Check your fusible link in the underhood fuse box.

3. Make yourself a Sub-harness for the alt wires to bypass any possible bad wiring inside the wiring harness

Here is a pic of a wire I found that look broken. Not sure were it goes though. It is hooked to the 100 AMP fuse and looks only long enough to hook back into the fuse block, the color of the wire is black and is spliced into the end that hooks to the fuse. Any idea were it goes?

That looks like a power/ground wire.. That goes into the fuse box for use right next to that white one.

I'm not sure I will get some pics, I also found a black/with blue stripe wire down by the starter dissconnected. Not sure if it was like that or not, but it looks like the guy who wired it before me ran a red wire down to the starter. Doesn't look factory either. Is it possible that wire could allow the alternator not to charge the battery?

Here are some more pics of the fuse box. Hopefully this will help on figuring out were the wire goes.

From the pictures you've given me that looks like a 100(Amp) fuse the blue one. That is ALT or alternator, that may be your problem right there..

Yeah I knew it was the wire that came off of the ALT 100 AMP fuse, but I have know idea were it goes. I have looked all around and can't seem to find were it could have broken off from.

Found a yellow wire near the fuse box that is not connected to anything. It looks like it goes into a 3 pin connector with a white wire, a black wire and the yellow one. Any clues?

did you check the engine fuse behind the driver side kickpanel? It should be either a 7.5 amp or a 15 amp. My new alternator wouldn't charge I replaced the blown engine fuse and it worked. Try that.

I remember that wire the black one I mean that he pictured there. From my swap that one goes from there next to the battery and crosses all the way to the Alternator on the other side it is the ground for the Alternator itself. I had to make a new wire to go across to the other side because it goes across and down to a Black plastic link box right behind the passenger side headlight. then from there to the Alternator. That would explain the charging thing.

Well checked the all the fuses in the drivers side kick panel and all of them are good. As for the black wire there is one going to the battery and the one that is cut. I took a multimeter and tested all the different points of contact and they all showed the same voltage as the battery. I don't know were to go with this. I am about to just sell it!

Like I said the black wire your talking about goes over to the other side of the car and connects to the Alternator. There is a little black plastic box over there with a black wire going in and coming out going to the Alternator. The cut wire you see goes from there across the front above the Radiator and connects over there. Trust me I remember that wire very vividly because I forgot to hook it up and had the car together made it a pain to run it in with the radiator there. I found the best picture I could seeing as I am not home. I would say make sure that the cable I talking about is connected.

I checked it out and there is a black wire coming from the post on top of the alternator to the fuse box. The cut black wire is a second black wire that is coming off of the same side of the fuse. Its hard to see in the picture, but there is 2 wires there. I am going to just run that cut line straight to the battery and see if anything happens. I am still stumped though when I have the car running I take a volt reading off of the top of the alternator and it reads the same as the voltage on the battery. Unless there is a wire thats not hooked up that would tell the alternator to start charging? I am about to take a video of all the wires and see if that will help. Thanks

And are the tree wires on the back of the alternator in the right order and all the other wires have no breaks. Well I'd say get another alernator if you have the warranty. Or get it checked.

Well just got the ALT checked out and it's good. So it's somewhere in the wiring. I have a three wire plug up near the fuse box that has a white, yellow, and black with yellow stripe setup. The only problem is the yellow wire is not hooked up. Could the yellow wire be the one that needs to hook up to the second black wire off of the ALT 100 AMP fuse?
