im in the process of doing a BHG.
Is the BHG bad enough to mess up the bearings. The previous owner noticed temp going up and stop the car.refilled water and drove about 5-10 mins slowly back to work. After he noticed it was a BHG he towed it home. Oil is milky but the BHG isnt that bad. Should i just do a full rebuild to be on the safe side/might even go 1jz.
if its safe do i need to resurface the block for MHG.
the longblock was a replacement motor and has been in the car for less than 5 months only. also noticed the circles i have on the pics. the HG isnt that bad around the cylinders but has holes from heat on it. What causes that ?
i only wiped it down with a cloth but didnt cleaned the block surfaces or pistons yet.

i plan on running a 1.4mm tms/gates/arp studs if i dont need a rebuild.

any suggestions will be appreciated.
thanks tony

is the block bad or is it just on the safer side to do a rebuild
should i just go 1jz instead?
Because if i did choose to rebuild it I would go forged piston/rods and it would cost almost the same amount.

Turn the motor slowly. with your hand on every piston. you'll notice a rod with knock almost instantly.

that motor actully looks pretty damn good.

i'd throw the toyota headgasket on and run it till it knocks. :)

thats what i was thinking. that it looked pretty clean compared to other BHG on here.
ill check for the knock later on when i have time
i just want to drive it to work daily until i save for a 1jz single.
so basically ill just need to machine the head and put OEM HG and stock studs and torque it to like 65-70lbs. should that be okay for stock boost.
i dont want to do a MHG/arp and get a knock after. maybe ill go with OEM after i check for rod knock. thanks for the input

^zum was joking about checking for rod knock by hand. lol

i agree that you should just change the hg with a stock composite one. if you know what your doing it will work fine.

and why the fuck would you rebuild a motor that just blew a hg if it had a recent rebuild. doesn't sound like it has been driven on that long with the bhg. should be fine. i would get a set of arp head bolts to go with the hg since the toyota bolts are about the same price. studs are unnecessary for your goals and will be more of a hassle./

If it was not run for any length of time with coolant in the oil, I'd put a stock HG on it and hope for the best. If you use a MHG, you will need to get the block deck resurfaced (head deck too) to a RA of 30 or less....if you do that, you might as well replace the bearings. I would use ARP studs torqued to the correct value in any case...if you use studs make sure you chase the block threads.

If you go the OEM HG route, get some WalMart SuperTech 5W-20 oil and filter and run the motor for about 10 minutes to flush any coolant in the system. Change it to a good 0W or 5W-30 and a Wix filter...in this case, I would run the oil to 3000 miles or so till the next change. Then switch to a real synthetic like German Castrol 0W-30 and run for 8000 before your next change.

im not sure if it was rebuilt before, but i know its a replacement motor though. a shop did all the work for the previous owner. cost total of $2200.

ill just go with the oem HG route as i dont want to waste any money or time.
ill do the flush and use coolant flush also to get all the rust out of the coolant passages.
ill just drive until it blows again and go 1JZ. i have a goal of atleast 700rwhp or close to that. money isnt the issue but its time for me.

Yeah when I saw the pics I thought it was a failed rebuild, Be cause the block, pistons, and head look so clean. My bhg was freakin ugly.

whenever your doing a metal head gasket weather you have 1 mile or 100000 miles on the motor you should always have the block decked only because of the tolerances needed for the head gasket to work correctly. you cant have so much as a nick in the block or left of gasket on there
