Hi everyone,
A friend of mines father picked up an 1986 or 1987 supra for the grassroots motorsports 2006 or 2007 challenge. It cost him 500 bucks for the car that seems to be in relatively good condtion. However, we need some direction here on some cheap power and we also need some help figuring out why its not starting. We can get it to crank and there is a spark but its acting like there is no fuel. We drained the fuel tank of fuel because it had sat forever and put some fresh gas in the tank. So it cranks it sparks at it has good gas so we figured its somewhere along in the fuel injection system thats messed up. We bridged the diagnostic connect FP and B+ and there is no sound from the back of the car like the fuel pump is trying to run. Is the fuel pump gone? Could the filter be clogged with that crappy gas and the motor on the fuel pump is just not moving? Is there something that usually happens on supras that we should know about? Any help is apreciated.

Thanks guys,
Lucas

Do i have to drop the fuel tank to get the pump out? The service manual acted as if it was attached to the bottom of the fuel tank some how. ( and no pump sound at all just the EFI relay clicking under the hood)

You have to drop the tank if you gonna change the pump....and change the fuel filter in same time ;)

Ya, Its the pump and I think you do have to drop the tank. It's not hard, It's right in the back.

Alright, could the clogged filter keep fuel pump from running at all? To the point where we couldnt hear the pump running. I cant imagine it would just fail and not run. and... how much are new fuel filters (remember we have to save all the money we can becasue we can only spend 2007 dollars on the challenge)

Their is a little door under the carpet and spare tire covering. You can loosen and remove the fittings there and then drop the tank down replace it with a walbro 255LPH.

Pull off the inspection cover in the back of the car. You'll see the top of the tank, and the pipes coming out of the sender. Unplug the electrical connector there and test to see if you're getting voltage. Although improbable for bad fuel pump wiring, not impossible.
Did you test fuel pressure? You're gonna want to get a new fuel filter anyway, so you can pull off the filter and turn the key if you want, and really see if there's fuel coming out.
Bad pump or wiring, change the filter. Chances are it never has been.
