Hey guys!!! I have always loved supras since the 1st time i saw an MKIV, i knew that one day i would own one of these beasts. Well that time has come, except instead of an MKIV im getting an MKIII. im picking it up tomorrow, and it has no engine or tranny, its an 89 N/A Targa. http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59020
pics can be seen in its f/s thread.
i come from the SRT-4 world so im not sure if the 7mgte and the 2.4 turbo in the srt-4 are similar at all. the srt-4 engine can hold about 400whp on 93 reliably for a loooong time. the stock turbos max eff. is about 19.5 psi but gains can be had up to 22psi(what im running). so you guys will be seeing me in the technical forums a lot in the future.
now on to the reason im REALLY gettin an MKIII, i got in LOTS of trouble with the neon (3" TBE no cat no mufflers is INSANELY LOUD) i lost my license for 4 years, a few months ago i got my cinderella license and have been driving my dads 04 dodge 2500 cummind TD for now, but i want my own car. i'll be putting a 7mgte and r154 in the car for now, with basic mods and if i can find one a decent but quiet exhaust. on sept,13 2009 i get my full license reinstated upon which time the srt-4 is goin back on the road and the mkiii is getting upgraded with a 2jz and 6 spd gertrag tranny to become my drift car (i always wanted to drift and sometimes do in the truck when its wet out :evil2: )

ok so this is my basic introduction, i look forward to learning as much as i can about this car and hopefully meeting up with some locals to check out their supras sometime in the near future.

Congrats on the purchase. When I saw the thread you bought the car from, I wanted to buy it. By the time I read through it, you already said you were getting it. But, good for you and good luck with the project.

How did you lose your license for 4 years just for having 3" exhaust?
in this lovely state of MA, an exhaust ticket is a moving violation, these were the majority of my tickets, and some 10-15mph over tickets... all bullshit if u ask me.

haha i wish it was RWD but for some reason some part of me likes the FWD. And i hope its gonna be more expensive than my $21,000 neon lol. :aigo:

thanks a lot guys i cant wait to pick this thing up and start the body work (the cheap part) :biglaugh:

oh and i forgot to ask, is there anything i should look for when i get the car? any lil quirks that almost all mkiii's have?

most turbo mk3s blow their head gasket once if not numerous times. watch for that as well as rod knock

When you get a motor for it, tear it down and rebuild it, take your time... Oh wait, you're not going with the 7M, IIRC you'll have to modify your tranny tunnel to make a Getrag fit. I'd stick with the R154 as it's plenty beefy to handle 800 HP.

Oh, I'd personally get a lighter car to drift, the MKIII is a tank.

thanks guys, i DO plan on stickin with the 7m for now, i will be using the r154 and rebuilding the motor before it goes in. i'll be daily driving it till sept of 09 and maybe even after that too.
I just picked it up this morning and im more than happy with my investment, the interior is VERY clean (after a nice vacuum) and has all the parts minus the guage cluster, even came w/ a gte ecu :) (adn a couple mice under the backseat LMAO)
real work on it starts tomorrow so maybe ill make a new thread in the build section.

Lol, you should have listened to Joe (I work with him BTW). With the current state of the car, and you wanting to daily drive it, I would personally do a 1jz swap (I did). If you feel like driving down to Southern CT or going to the pike, Ill be glad to show you the "lack of torque" before the single goes in.

i'd love to go for a ride in a 1jz mkiii, im not completly set on which way i wanna go, pretty much whatever is cheaper, but still reliable. im juss used to lotsa torque, my neon did 286hp/366tq to the wheels last sept. if i can get about 280/280 in the supra ill be happy.

Whats with drifting, its not a sport its a driving technique its ok to do it but building a car for drifting is kinda a waste. A mk3 is a poor choice for drifting and the 2jz + 6 speed plan is a pipe dream at best unless you have around 8 to 12k and even then you're gonna spend a lot to mod it to fit. Sounds to me like you chose a mk3 because of there significatntly lower price than the mk4.

btw... i know what it's like having a 3" tbe cause i've got a 3" tbe side exit exhaust on my 05 srt4 and it's loud as all hell.
