Um... sawblades aren't that terribly heavy... ~18lbs apiece, plus tire. Not featherweight, but about the same weight as an average aftermarket rim.

Also... the RX-7 has an aluminum jack that only weighs 3 pounds or so. I've been keeping an eye out for one in junkyards myself. :)

Sawblades are ~23 lbs
MK4 TT rims are ~24-25 lbs
FD rim weight will depend if they're reinforced or not, but they average ~14 lbs

If you want to make your car lighter but don't want to lose comfort then you're going to end up spending lots of money replacing stock parts with lighter ones. There isn't much dead weight reduction you can do without interfering with your comfort in the car.

Get a lightweight flywheel, driveshaft, and rims if you want to reduce weight. Reducing rotating mass is MUCH more effective than reducing dead weight.

I'll second the driveshaft! That was a huge difference. The stock DS takes some heft to lift, where my 1-piece al I got from HPF is 11.4lbs -- effortless to lift with one hand.

I'm always looking to lose weight in my supra. But losing weight without compromise and not spending tons of money can be hard. Heres what I have done: Removed the 48 pound spare tire (make sure you have good tires). Removed the heavy stock turbo elbow and precat with a BIC downpipe. Remove the heavy main CAT. Replace the fywheel with an aluminum one (saved 8 pounds of rotating mass). Get a light weight battery. The stock battery is 40 pounds, the oddysey is 15 pounds;(thats 25pounds of the front end).... Thats only about 100 pounds but I like the comfortable stock seats, I like the AC in the summer, and I like the quiet rattle-free ride. The heavy stock seats may be next, but it will be hard to find decent replacemnets.

whats this battery you talk of, i work at an auto parts store but we only carry Optima's(heavy) and Exide's(heavy and crap), so where can i get one? I am planning on buying a BIC downpipe and driveshaft but all in due time i only work part time at $8/hr so im slowy buildin her up, also i cant replace the main cat because emission testing around here is strict. Looks like just about everything has been posted thanks for all your help guys.

AGlobalThreat- that is one fuckin sweet interior. What kind of seats are those?

Buy a Mk2 and swap your drivetrain into it......

Seriously you're starting with the wrong car if you want light weight, it's a GT not a sportscar.....

now that is awsome idea... not that i would hack my car but i see gte's cheap and same with the mkII's, be fun to build one... make a good 1/4 mile car... 850lbs less with this powerplant and trans..specially a gutted mkII.. :icon_evil . good info,, does the engine transplant easily? :evil2:

You can buy the Odyssey light weight battery at www.batterymart.com for about $100.

I have emmisions around my area too. But the main cat is such a restriction that I run a test pipe until the emmisions test is due, then I temperarly put the cat back in. The power and response you get from deleting both cats and the elbow is quite amaising, and the weight savings is a little added bonus.

Argh... and I just paid like $75 for a heavy-ass diehard...

Thanks for the link though, man!

(Are normal car batteries rated by their overall CCA, or their initial CCA?)
