So i'm considering buying a new turbo. I'm not sure what to get. I want at least 400rwhp but I don't want over 500rwhp. I want to acheive this hp goal on pump gas.

I'm trying to be cheap but not so cheap that it will take away reliablity of the car. I have 550cc injectors, so i want to keep that. Buying bigger injectors means spending more money.

So what is the biggest turbo i can go with on 550cc injectors and a single 255 walbro pump?

I would go with a Boss turbo if I were you since it's a bolt on affair and can make the power you're looking for.

you can make 400whp on an 57 ct. Its a reliable turbo and decently cheap. you would need to turn the boost up a bit more on it to get there, which will shorten its life more compared to a larger turbo. But it also depends how you drive, which will determine how long it will last. do you mash it to the floor all the time or just like to open it up sometimes?

Yep, pretty much a time bomb. Youll need more supporting mods than 550's anda walbro pump for 400whp. :nono:

Most deffinatly going to grenade with only 550's and a walbro, do supporting mods before the turbo. Will cost less in the end.

Yeah. Stock headgasket with stock headbolts (even torqued to factory spec 72 lb/ft) is a ticking time bomb with a larger turbo on higher boost (larger turbo flows higher amount of air than smaller turbo at same psi). Walbro, 550's, lex afm, safc, 57 trim ct26 are all good for the amount of power you want, but how long your head gasket will hold up at that power level is the real question...

That being said, you could technically run a Toyota OEM headgasket (or equivalent) and ARP head studs (torqued to at least 80 lb/ft), and you should be alright for a while.

Is your ultimate goal 400 rwhp, or are you going to want to go higher?

that's exactly what i think of upgraded ct's. i've only had about 4 of them. all sucked. but i do love my garrett t04e 57trim w/ a .48 hotside and twin scroll plus it should easily do what you want. i run this turbo, and the only 2 gears i have traction in are 4th and 5th

what's funny is that i do have a ct-26 with a 57trim. And i think it did blow up. I was coming out of the gas station back onto the highway so i mashed on the gas. When i shifted, it sounded like grinding gears but i didnt mis-shift. The car isn't smoking.
Now, if i drive it normal, you would never tell there is anything wrong with the car. But when i step on the gas pedal hard, the turbo gets really loud like its an open turbo. It still builds boost, but really slow. i havent taken anything apart yet to inspect whats wrong. But i popped the hood and i didnt see any loose hoses or anything out of place.

So yea. if the turbo is blown, then i guess its time for a new turbo.

i was thinking of getting a boss sr turbo. Maybe getting the P-trim GTS GT66.

I dont plan on ever using race gas. So i guess the most my engine will ever see is 18psi.

Assuming i have an engine that can handle any kind of power i throw at it. :biglaugh:
Are 550cc injectors and a single walbro fuel pump good enough to handle that kind of turbo? I shouldnt pass 500hp with that turbo at 18 psi right?

So once again i want at least 400rwhp but do not want to exceed 500rwhp.

I think what Ian was getting at is the engine is a ticking time bomb with the stock head gasket and head bolts at a higher power level.

The OP never stated what he has done to the engine to be able to handle a higher amount of power.

35R... be done with it.

I agree here, with supporting mods aimed at reliability mods. It would be the last turbo you would need with what you are saying so far. Should reach that goal comfortably.

As far as the current turbo building boost and running real loud, DANGER!

I have an example here somewhere of whats likely going on inside your turbo and it's not good. I'll also try to dig up a pic of what happened to one of the pistons in my motor when the turbo's shaft broke. I had at that time the exact same setup you appear to be running. 550's, upgraded ct, boost controller, etc.

Tanked my motor when it went, I wouldn't drive the car myself if I were you until it's sorted out.

-Once again NO, your engine may be built to handle 500whp, but you just dont have the supporting mods for this. With out propper supporting mods it will probably blow up before you even hit 18psi.

what you you mean i dont have supporting mods for this?
A fully built motor isn't supporting mods?

Ok. i'll rephrase my question...
Will 550cc injections and a single walbro fuel pump give my engine enough fuel for a big turbo like the boss sr GTS GT66 on 18psi with pumped gas?

First off you've only mentioned 550's and Walbro fuel pump. So im assuming thats all the supporting mods you have.

You need more that that. How are you going to tune this? Youve never mentioned anything on this. Do you have a Fuel pressure regulator? Still running on the stock J-tube? Lexus AFM?

Im pretty sure that for a 400whp-500whp youll also want to get rid of the stock Intercooler or atleast the stock pipping.

Also what kind of Head Gasket do you have?
