need to find out if i can cross check the VIN with Engine block #

So i can figure out if the previous owner put a newer engine in my car i went to my local toyota dealer and they said that Toyota dosent keep records on engine block #'s
any help would be great

Why does it matter to you if the motor is newer? Something not fitting? just curious?

did our cars original engine have a number on it that matched our vin number?

I know up to 89 there is no way of tracking a 7M engine to a VIN in the Supra or Cressida. The Celica and Camry, 3SFE and 5SFE series however does have a VIN tag on the block.

That's because Toyota is ridiculous and has three different factory bearing sizes. You still can't tell which ones you need until you open up the bottom end and look at the crank, IIRC
