Well I got the 1JZ fired up with Stinger a couple weeks ago and then the next day I threw on the tires to take it for a test drive. The car would not start and I realized the fuel pump was the problem. I ended up replacing the fuel pump and re grounding my relay and the fuel pump turns on. Well I go to start the car and it still does not start. At first it would start slightly at low idle but would soon die. The next time I turned the key I heard a huge backfire but still the engine would not start. Now the car just turns over without a hint of starting. I find this odd because the car was running perfectly before and now I am back to where I started. I left the map untouched and exactly as before. The plugs I have in are currently brand new never run on the street just used to run the car on the driveway. I also noticed the plugs are really black.

What are your guys thoughts on this?

Damn dude, can you pop your stock ecu back in and test it?

Stock ECU bit the dust so I don't have it anymore. I am hoping its just something silly and it will just fire up today. That is me being really optimistic because there is no reason why it shouldn't start. I got spark, fuel and a working computer so I think.

Well guys here is where I am at today. I tried to fire the car up and it still doesn't start. I just don't understand how the car was running perfectly before and now it doesn't a week later. I am using the base map Aaron gave me to start the car but it doesn't even sound like it wants to fire.

I pulled a plug and they were soaking wet with fuel from all of my cranking. I let the plugs dry off and reinstalled them but I still have the same troubles. I also checked for spark and it is very faint.

A very crazy thing did happen though. I was cranking my car and all of a sudden I heard a huge bang and my buddy said the car shot a 3 foot flame out of the exhaust.

So I guess my next question is what should I check next. I am going to triple check the wiring on the harness that Aaron made and the factory harness. Also is there any way to check if an ignitor is working properly?

Let me know guys I have been trying to get this to run for awhile now and I am running out of ideas.

I realize that but the car won't even start so I can't really get around to tuning it.:aigo:

I initially got the car to idle very well and was going to start tuning on the road but the next day it just stopped working.

what's your fuel pressure?

I'm gonig to go on a limb and maybe say cold start enrichments, but that's jsut a shot in the dark.

Thats what I was thinking, the only thing that I can think of that would change would be the temperature, when those cold start enrichments are off they throw everything off..

Well guys I feel pretty dumb right now. I pulled a plug and what do you know they are covered in carbon. I am going to throw a fresh set in tomorrow and I am pretty sure it will start right up. I will let you guys know how the test drive does.

rakkasan I also took your advice and added the 4 degrees of advance in the 400rpm range. I am hoping that will help make it start easier.

Well guys the new plugs were the ticket. The car started right up and I eventually got her on the road. I really love how user friendly and easy the stinger is. Thanks again to rakkasan for the timing advise and hottscennessey for the idle control valve illustrations.

I can start the car first try and drive the car 20-30 seconds later. Mind you it does idle around 900 but IMO so worth it.
