ROFL! well it would be kinda funny to actually make some SupraStick's™ with the Supramania.com logo on em...for conversation pieces!

the funny part is how much money you'd make of 'em LOL
i'd buy one lol.

hahahah. freakin' awesome. Anybody want in on the SupraStick (patent pending :p) idea? Someone should really make a commercial like that when they have some free time. the first time i went to go see the car, the dude had another piece of board in the car. I had no idea what it was for, but it was there. But damn, when I pulled up and saw that the hood was being propped up, I was like, "Man....only a MK3....." As for the hatch falling on your hand....I've had that happen to me before. Left a nice li'l bruise. I didn't feel it after the first 10 minutes or so...

This'll give me some time to save some money though.....even though payday's next Friday....I'm just worried now if this car is in a good enough condition that if I kept with the routine maintainance, I won't have to worry about it being down for maybe a week at a time, tops. I'll just have to shoot a bunch of questions towards the owners while my mechanics checking over the car. Anyone here making ~$800 a month and still have a running Supra?

to kill sometime, anyone have stories about when they bought and left their cars stock for a while? i've heard most of the sobs stories when people mod their cars, but not much when they were stock. So anyone with a good story?

I've noticed most of those citing the price being high are 86-88 owners. Not meant as a cut-down to you guys, but there is a definite price difference between the 86-88 style and the 89-92's. I'd definitely let a mechanic determine the severity of the oil pressure gauge, unless you feel more competent than he is.

well, the thing is, the mechanic is a bit biased against the car. he says it's problematic and people sell it pretty much ASAP when a problem arises. I'm not really confident about my way around the MK3 to know what to look for when it comes to the oil pressure (gauge) as I don't know of anyone around me that would be willing to let me help'em. Hopefully he'll set his grudge aside and give us an honest opinion.

If you want to learn more about the car, here is the place to learn. Like ANY car,the more it's neglected, the more the driver thinks it's a pile. Most of the people who buy them and have problems usually push them to a point where something WILL fail. Performance on this type motor is done in proper steps, just not by slapping on the newest thing and expecting big power gains. The car IS dependable, performs great, and with the right rim/tire/strut/spring combo makes it look so cool, you just want to drive everywhere and make everyone jealous!

thanks for the vote of confidence. i really appreciate it.

when i mean work on it, i mean hands on. I'm more of a hands-on person or at least with some detailed visual aids, than I am by reading things. When I read things, eventually the words get jumbled together.

I'm pretty sure this car's a good one. only thing needed to be done is to tighten the head bolts a bit more cuz it was done to stock specs. their maintanance has been routinely done. I'm gonna go through the records again thoroughly on Thursday.

BTW, does anyone still have a carfax account?

About the comment about the pre 89 cars being worth less... I believe it is because they are more common.. In 1990-1992 There were less than 5000 cars sent to the United States. And how many of thoes still exist? That are not wrecked or melted down yet?

Hells: Yea, I think so too, it seems like the MKIII was a car that was made for the moment, was trendy for a while, then everybody seemed to forget about them after a year or two...kinda like the Scion's...*ouch*lol...

I actually went to a wrecking yard, and there was a Dark Grey Metallic 92 Turbo Targa bone stock w/ 64k miles and Shadow grey interior...The front was SMASHED...what a waste.

Got Boost: Well, I bought my 87 turbo about 9 months ago (had an NA for 2 yrs) for $1,200...It didn't start, interior was shot, and had a BHG...oh, and 200k miles, lol. I'm beginning to think that I payed way too much for it lol. It has gone through an extreme makeover during that time, and is beginning to look like a new car! It is still bone stock, and would be very reliable if it weren't for several stupid mistakes on my part!

$3,800 sounds like too much, MAYBE 3,200 if you're feeling limber...It would have to be running PERFECTLY though. Lol, I know how you feel when taking it to the shop, my mechanic's the same way about Supra's...all doom and gloom...lol. I even know of him telling someone that he thought my Supra was a complete piece of s**t...6 Months later, and he's not saying that anymore ;).

If you can elaborate on the distributer cap thing, that would be great, because the car'll will be getting inspected by my mechanic in the morning at 10.

Good. mechanic likes the car. said it's very good and shouldn't cause much trouble for a while, but refuses to work on the turbo itself when the time comes to replace it, but will work on everything else.

But now, I'm having second thoughts on getting the car.....cuz I mean ~18mpg mixed driving on 93 octane at ~$3.20/gallon. I get 23mpg (city) on 87 octane at ~$2.90/gallon in my 4-cyl Camry and my sister's Celica (my other option) gets a bit more than that. All of that adds up in the long run when I think about it. There's more things I wanna do with my money (build my next computer and get the Camry repainted with all dings removed), but I don't wanna pour it all into the Supra. I'm thinking about holding off on the Supra for a while till I'm sure that I'm financially stable and done with school and maybe by then, we're not dependant on gas so much anymore and the prices on that goes down. haha. eeehhh... :(
