i just read thru the sticky in the 7MGE section and i have a few questions. i posted this in general section because its more about electrical parts and such from the 7MGTE rather than the n/a motor itself.

my 7MGE has been developing a BHG since i bought the car and it is finally getting bad enough that i need to replace it (oil in the coolant). i started ordering rebuild parts from driftmotion today as i plan on doing a complete rebuild with a MHG, ARP studs and clevite 77s (didnt order the gasket or bearings yet because the engine hasnt been to the machine shop yet, its still in the car.

since i'm going to be doing all of this work i am thinking i'd like to go turbo at this time. I have an 87 turbo that i intend to use for the turbo parts for this swap. can this be done or will i need electronics from an from an 89+ GTE in order to use a turbo ecu from the same year car (1990)? i would like to know specifically what parts i can use from the 87 and what will i need to buy from an 89+ car. any advice from someone who has done this or something like this would be greatly appreciated.

I've done it twice.... easiest/most cost/time efficient way....

Buy a turbo from the same year as yours, take all the electronics out of the engine bay, the IC pipes, oil cooler, and any other parts you could use (the little check valve for the brake booster, for example)....

When you pull the engines, pull the wiring harness through the firewall by taking the glovebox out and disconnecting al the lines coming from the harness, should be 5-7 of them. Then just pull the harness through, and you're good to go don't even have to pull the intake off and get a new gasket.

Basically swap computers and drop the engine back in.

Just make a note of where the electronic stuff came from and install it back to where it came off the turbo car.

*edit*
If it's a 90, any turbo car w/ grey ECU plugs will work.

If you do it this way and not do a Half swap, it'll be much easier and you know everything will work.

I can get you more info, but it's basically a 'drop in' swap if you do it this way.

Be careful about using parts out of an '89...some of the harness connectors (not the ECU) are different. You kinda have to look at an '89 as it "own year".
