When I bought my car the belt to the compressor was cut the guy I bought the car from said that it needed a new one because it was locked up. So the question is what do I need to replace to make the system work? I have a brand new compressor, dryer, belt, and I heard that when the lines are opened up im going to need some new seals is that it. Will i need to replace the condenser, expansion valve or the expansion valve seal and I looked at the condenser and it looked good.

Change your compressor, dryer and the seals on the lines that go to the compressor. Make sure to get the green R134 seals.

Vacuum it out and charge back and use a little bit of dye, you don't need a lot, and you will see if you have a leak.

My A/C system was left open since last year October and sat through the whole winter and I recently charged it up and it works. I did cover the lines. If I have a leak, I will see it from where the dye comes out and when I evacuate the system, I am cool to change the dryer since that will make it a bit cooler.

My compressor is in bad shape, too. In my case, the expansion valve failed, and someone decided that what it needed was more refrigerant... FAIL.

Haven't bought parts, since it's the expansion valve that isn't going to be any fun at all to get to...

Compressor, receiver/dryer and seals is a minimum to replace.
