Usually with a slippy clutch its the higher gears that slip rather the low ones.I take it its a manual.Any grinding or clunks?
no there is no grinding...it just won't grab on 1 or 2..so it has to be take off on 3rd....? 1 and 2 gear goes in it just dont' go..so transmission? should i get the car and fix it? how much to rebuilt the transmission?

If its the transmission your looking at $500+ on ebay for a used non rebuilt tranny. Not including labor to have it installed, unless you do it yourself.

If its the clutch you can install a new non OEM aftermarket one for like $300-$400 i imagine. That again is if YOU install it, i paid $800 for an OEM clutch installation on my 86.5 Non turbo 5spd Supra and it never worked the same again. Waste of money and i got ripped out the ass for it :(

You should check to see if the pedal is adjusted right, and maybe have a friend help you to see if the slave cylinder is sticking.

good point. problem is though if the clutch will grab in 3rd gear but not 1 & 2, rules the clutch out to a point. clutch slipage usaly does occur ain higher gears at higher rpm ranges. the clutch cant hold on and it "slips". i have a feeling its the trans. finding a good shop to rebuild it can be a issue. if it is the clutch, stock can be bought from advanced auto for about $500. easy to do if you have a load of tools and tiny ninja hands!!!!

so the problem is the transmission...do you think 1000 will cover everything ?? or am i going to have to spend more then that..i just want to get it fixed just to drive around and to work..no racing..

about 5 to 7 grand for a 2J installed for 1K you can pic up a JDM Engine set and have a new everything.
yea but the 7mgte is to much problem ..if the 2jzgte swap is 7 g then that is what i might do. is there a way for me to make it pass smog with the 2jzgte? and is it worth it? how fast in a 1/4 mile ..i have a 12 sec honda right now if the 2jzgte is going to be slow i might just go a different route. so let me know, cause if it cost me 1000 to do the 7mgte i might as well do a whole swap

7m is not a problem. I have been here awhile now and had the same mind set you have but let me tell ya to have an almost bullet proof 7M all you need to do is buy a JDM 7m when ya get it swap out the head gasket with an OEM unit and a set of ARP head bolts and you will not have any problems. A 2J will never pass smog even if you cat it and resonate as it will not pass visual inspection as it did n't come in that car. You can do what ever you want but there are a couple of 10 sec MKIII supras and all have 7M in them. Supra's are not Honda's so you are in the wrong mind set with the 2j as its really only Bling and Swapping a 2j will not put you in the 12's or even close.

Tell ya what man you buy that car and I will trade you my running Non turbo car for it as it sits. Oh btw if you can take off in third then its not the clutch but will be soon. The Syncros for 1st and 2nd are bad. If it where a clutch then the more you rev the less responce you get from the tranny so taking off in third would be impossible
