need an educated opinion

ok i know there are a hundred thousand head gasket threads out there but this one is a lil different sorta, i want a CURRENT opinion,

heres my plight, ive already done the arps and a metal head gasket, but when i recieved it (and im assuming this isnt always the case) a lil bit of it was bent, and it was at a friends shop, so long story short it had to go on as soon as i got it, hes an uber professional, so his honest opinion was it will work but under much boost it may fail in the future,

that was two years ago and it did fantastic at ten pounds of boost, but all of a sudden its starting to have coolant problems, and overheating problems, such as no matter what i did it would overheat and put air in the upper rad pipe, and a LOT of pressure, and i didnt wana face it for forever because ive already spent a lot on a hg job, but i think that lil bend has come back to haunt me,

so heres my question

i wont name what brand i bought of mhg a while back, because im sure a lot of you have them, but what are your current opinions on which head gaskets are good bad and indifferent,
basically i wana do this for the LAST time this time, because its getting expensive and i miss my poor supra :cry:

Any will work fine if fitted correctly, conversly ALL will blow if abused no matter how good (personal experience)

LOL these damn head gasket questions nothing will last if it wasn’t done correctly ..... however everything will last if was done correctly. I had stock style head gasket and I was putting down 317rwhp and 343tq and I had a pretty aggressive tune with all things considered.

The problems that occur with the 7m's are 99.9999999998% due to the fact most of the owners are younger people who can’t afford to do the right thing, because they think more about what kind of power it will make, and how low can they go on the price while trying to drive the car every day and work on it every weekend. So they rush the completion just to have it on the road and shortly after it breaks again. Then they blame the head gasket or whatever when it fails

If you blow a head gasket and it wasn’t a mechanical or electrical malfunction then you have to put the blame on somewhere else like hmmm maybe an incorrect RA spec on the head/block or it was because of a poor job on the assembly.

Ditto...All will also fail if the proper prep work is not done. That means having both the block and head surfaced to the RA spec for the MHG used.

oh no please dont get me wrong, im not blaming anyone, it was a mechanical error of sorts, because of the bend in the gasket im assuming, because i was in no hurry to get it back from my mechanic, and he is a very very well knowledged supra mechanic, hes been doing it for years and has worked on many many drag teams as well as for toyota and now for speedforsale.com, so believe you me im not blaming his skills or the quality of the job, also not only did he have the block machined by a professional shop, he also did a port and polish himself while at it, and m not very rough on my car, im not a youngster bent on raising hell and going all out 24/7, i love my car as a family member, i simply love it for what it is, an amazing machine,

anyway, enough of my rantings, it was done correctly, and ran at 10lbs for about two years with an occasional boost increase to about 14lbs, but that was maybe for a total time of ten min over two years, never been put on the track, and still having issues where all symptoms point to the bhg, but its blown in a way where it pushes air into the coolant system but not oil in the coolant or coolant into the oil, so idk, but either way i my question was not answered,

what gaskets do you trust ppl? titan, greddy, cometic, something else????

Giter - The HKS Stopper is the best, no doubt. The most common type for the others, including HKS, are the bead type and are good as well. Cometic will custom make a MHG to whatever thickness you specify. The Titan is made by Cometic. This may be helpful:

Maybe you should check the torque on the head bolts. It may have happened if you did not do all the proper torque, and re-torque steps. It won't help now, but it may give you insight into why it failed, so it doesn't happen again.

well i was unaware of the retorque step, so that may have a lot to do with it, because it was never done lol, so titan is a relabeled cometic? how cheesy lol, so hks is probably the best?

I do a re-torque (crack them loose and re-torque them) after 500 miles.

That said, what are your goals for this? If your head and deck were perfectly flat, and you are only looking at 10-12psi, I might just point you at a standard FelPro gasket.

Put it this way, with over 210k miles on my car, @ 16psi from a 57 trim CT26, the Felpro gasket was NOT what let go on me!

The HKS Stopper is the best...it's also the most expensive and the least tolerant of higher than spec (50) RA. It only comes in 1mm and 2mm thickness as well....you need to take that into consideration if you want to keep stock compression or not.

The rest are the same bead design. Like I said, Cometic will give you the most flexibility for thickness.

if you havent done a leak down test... then do it. otherwise you might want to consider taking the head off and inspecting the hg. they are reusable... as long as there is not serious damage.
