i use a toyota filter and run valvoline 10-30 full synthetic

Mediocre filter at best (made in Thailand now, not Denso) and not a true syn oil...Grp III hydrocracked dino base stock.
Might want to spend some time reading the oil section.

Wix filters are hard to beat for the price.
Castrol European Formula (aka German Castrol) 0W-30 is an outstanding oil. Group IV PAO synthetic (unlike the above Valvoline).

just get a 2j oil filter from autozone that isnt a fram and grab up 5 qts of Mobil 1 Full synthetic 10w30

The problem is there's only a couple filters that are worthwhile...Mobil 1 and K&N (both Champion Labs filters...same as WalMart SuperTech) come to mind. While both are good filters, the Wix is better for less $$$.

And, Mobil 1 oil is another Grp III hydrocracked oil being sold as a "synthetic". Personally if I'm going to pay synthetic prices, I'm going to get a Grp IV or V synthetic oil.

Wix filters, and I used Castrol GTX in my 1JZ cos The synthetics would probabjly just seeeep out

Modern synthetics usually don't have this problem. The "syn oil will cause a leak" come from back when the PAO oils 1st hit the market...PAO will cause engine seals to shrink...ester will cause seals to expand. The syn oils on the market now use ester as a seal conditioner, so the original problem is largely gone. It's going to depend on the condition of the engine seals.

I wouldn't use Toyota filters, even if they were free...at least the ones in the US ;)
Denso Japan, different story.
