simple, non-biased (I think) comparison...

1J:
less displacement
less stroke, more bore (better suited to high rpm)
head flows better at high rpm
has MHG stock
stock oiling system is reliable

7M:
more displacement
more stroke, less bore (shorter in length, good for low end torque)
stock head gasket + head bolt torque inadequate (can be fixed with MHG+more bold/stud torque)
stock oiling system is problematic (can be made a non-issue by replacing/removing stock cooler, shimming oil pump and minimizing internal clearance in oil pump. Some people have also replaced banjo bolt connection from pump to block with AN hardware.)

Obviously you can improve the 7M's ability to rev with lighter internals and head work. It is possible to de-stroke to 2.8l by using a 5M crank. You can also stick a 2J short block under the 1J head to make it a 3.0l motor.

As for general durability, I think 1J's will take more abuse with stock internals than a 7M (with the problems above addressed)

With money thrown at the engine internals, the sky is the limit. Mibrum racing in europe made 1000+hp with a 7M.

Thank you both for the info, i overly appreciate it... 1 last question though and i need honesty.

Is the 7M that problematic that folks spend almost 7k on droppin in a stock 1J? Im a logical person, do you know what i can do to almost any motor with 7 g's.... i'm not on the budget some of you rich ass guys are, so im going to build the shit out of my 7M.
