Okay. I've done enough searches on several boards and I can't seem to get any lockdown on this dilema. I am running a 7M-GTE factory '88 Supra, and I've heard from everywhere the dangers of BHG. Usually it's only a matter of inevitability that I'll have mine go, most likely sooner than later, so I've decided to start with that first and foremost. It's obvious from the builds and rebuilds that people are using metal headgaskets to replace their factory stuff, and using replacement bolts/studs to keep proper pressure on the manifold once replaced. I know I need a metal one, but it's the thickness I'm stumbling over. I've heard everything from keeping the factory width to as much as I want to spend, but I know the higher in thickness I go, the more I'd need to alter the block or cylinder heads to incorporate the compression changes (i.e. shaving the block down, adjusting the heads in accordance with the height, etc...). I'm looking to keep this car as a daily driver with some additional pickup as I soup up the turbo, intercooler, and exhaust later on down the line, so I'm thinking the most I should probably go is 1.2mm, the least hassle and probably no additional mods to the block/heads. Can anyone shed some light on this? :1zhelp:
