It seems that leaving the targa off at work is an open invitation to mess with my car (steering wheel & seats moved, wipers on, xm antenna moved to the door, etc). It's getting old and eI'm ready to strike back. Is there an easy and cheap way to set my car up with a battery so that anybody who touches it gets a small but noticeable shock? I think that would end it pretty quick. :naughty: ...and yes, I know that leaving it on and locked would work too, but I hate changing my ways because of the stupidity of others.

I would not play around with an electric fence box anywhere near my car. Not only could it screw up your electronics, but those boxes are very powerful and can cause bodily harm and or death to anyone who may brush up against your car.

Lock it up and or call the police if it happens again.. This is just my opinion here..

I'm with you, Joel. I was thinking a "little" shock - like you get from a gag pen kind of jolt. There is no way I would mess with any electric fences and hurting somebody is definitely not a part of the plan.

Of course, if anybody has any less shocking ideas on a deterrent, I'm all ears. Err, eyes I guess.

I was thinking of making some kind of cloth top. My friend has a soft top for his Elise. Clips onto the corners and has a support bar in the middle.

No problems here D34, I just grew up on a farm and have seen several animals from deer to cows to horses get stuck in electric fences and killed...

All I was trying to say is high voltage across the heart is a bad thing....

High voltage but low current is not necessarily a bad thing.

Mythbusters did a test on it.

they are enough to send a jolt to you but not enough to cause permenant bodily injury.

simple easy fix. .. . put the targa on. :nono:

That's just no fun at all, and it's a pain I shouldn't have to deal with. I'd like to put an end to it nice and quiet, that's all.

Ever get a good static zap climbing out of a car? I just thought figuring out how to let one of my idiot coworkers complete a circuit to the ground with just a few volts every time he/they think it's funny to rearrange everything in the car would discourage this stupidity. Nothing I would even need to mention after the fact - just watch the problem go away :icon_bigg

Problem with targeting the door handle is that I think they just reach in and screw around. Power up the door (with minor voltage/current, and they could get it just for reaching in.

Regarding electric fences: When we were kids, we thought it would be a good idea to have a bunch of us stand in a line, hold hands, and have one person touch the fence. Some things are just better left undone, and not one of us thought it was a good idea after we did it.

:bigthumb: Now THAT's an idea! Has anybody ever figured out a way to use anything like a bicycle tire quick release or something similar for quick install/removal?

I'm thinking your best option, in terms of practicality and legality (mantraps are illegal outside of South Africa, as far as I know) would be the inexpensive alarm with radar/microwave sensor. That IS what they're for after all.
