Check that you have low resistance from the C8 pin (on the cluster) to one of the two voltmeter pins.

It sounds to me like you have a break in the main 12V power line in the cluster (since your old cluster works fine).

It was my understanding that the clusters are interchangeable (use the same connectors) between 86-88 and 89+. Hopefully that is true, I have no way to confirm.

Right now thats what im thinking... Bad circuit strips. im going to put my 87 back together right now... Ill give this 90 another shot later. as soon as i get more information.

The highest probability I would say is a crack in the solder joint for the power pin on the cluster. If you know how to solder, get some and reflow the connector pins on the cluster. You need some precision here, so don't use a butane powered torch or giant water pipe soldering tool for this.

I wouldn't feel too bad about this. You've narrowed it down to the cluster and even know the bad pin. Worst case you might have to jumper part of the trace, shouldn't be too bad.

As of now Im gonna put my 87 guages back in.. Not gonna cover em up with the plastic cause I put the nice platic on my 90 guages that are gonna need to be fiddled with...

What is the probability the circuit paper is FUBAR? How easy/hard would it be to swap em?

Okay to my conclusion with the help of chriso...

A 1990 guage cluster circuitry is different than a 1987 circuitry... Airbags..... That stuff.

I am going to get my guages (1990) and swap them into a 2nd (1987) cluster with circuitry. Hopefully that will work out for me!
