LOL he was like (maybe because he is a mustang owner :dunno: haha j/k)
"you should have gotten a narrow band gauge, wide bands are useless for boost" im not really sure why and where he was getting at with that

Any of the bosch wideband systems is the best

AEM & innovative LC-1 is the only way to go.

As far as restrictions it depends if your keeping the cat
& if you dont install your wideband correctly you will burn them up and they are quite expensive

They need to be clocked the correct angle the proper distance from the head exit ports and you use different setups based on fuel type.

The options are endless.
For instance some people have bought too many widebands so they will use it completly seperate from the ECU to monitor mixtures just for tunning the AFC then remove it.

Some choose to use them dailey with no problems who have it installed correctly

Some people will use both because some standalone ECU's have dual channel inputs for two widebands or mixture wideband narrow combo.

Here is where it depends alot
If you drive consistantly dont use a boost controler and use the same fuel grade and drive the same climate and area you are not boosting a lot or dont use multiple map configurations you decide to keep the emissions OEM like keep the CAT & then you can get away with a narrow band and just use your wideband 1 time or barrow one to tune the car. It will save you money and is not really needed

If your deleting the CAT making a viper killer boosting over 14PSI putting $1000s into the engine and car then a wideband should be a must!

Just for reference, I followed the AFX (NGK POWERDEX) AFR meter manual very carefully when I installed my WB, and after running it CONSTANT for a thousand miles or so over the course of a month of tuning around with it, when I changed my DP setup, and went to re-calibrate the sensor, it required NO trim!;)

According to the manual and what I have read, that's a good indication it's set up correctly, reading fairly accurately, and my ratios are not "overly skewed" to the point of abusing it, leading to a longer lifespan in "always on" mode, as I like it.:biglaugh:

BTW, after having the AFX, I don't think I can ever go back to running "blind".;)

Ran the same sensor in mine for 2>3 years and it didn't require trimming, now you understand why I suggested it :)

YES! (thanks)

Best part is, there is a DIRECT correlation between ONE CLICK on my piggyback knobs (2% trim of fuel at various RPM points/idle, etc...) equals out to right at about .5 on the AFR value. VERY handy to know and use for tuning.;)

(The fact that it is so PREDICTABLE makes the AFR that much more valuable for it's accuracy and responsiveness. Values change almost immediately when you trim the fuel +- 2% a click.)

Light travels faster than sound; which is why some people "appear" smart before they open their mouth.

I'll point out a NB display has some monitoring and diagnostic value. For example a few years back my O2 sensor wire broke at the connector. Since there is zero noticeable difference in how the engine runs under that condition if it weren't for the NB display I could have unknowingly driven it that way for a some time.

As I posted in the other Wideband in place of the narrowband thread I am currently have troubles with running the AEM as my narrowband and there is definetly lag in the corrects so I am going to put the stock one in tonight and see how she runs!

Thanks,
Seth
