It's a VSV (Vacuum Switching Valve).

Supra motors have several. They are used to control the flow of vacuum to various vacuum operated components.

hmm interesting.. When i removed my intake mani. this was bolted to the lower manifold. It was plugged into the wiring harness but there were no vacuum lines connected? Any idea which system this switch worked in conjunction with? Im trying to determine if it's necessary to reinstall or not.

Ah, the ONLY VSV on the 1JZ.....

Yes, it bolts underneath the intake manifold, and connects between the intake manifold, and charcoal canister. Prevents you from boosting into your gas tank.

awesome! just the answers i was looking for. I've removed the charcoal canister so i'll go ahead and leave this off as well
