Check the timming again. The belt could have jumped. Sounds just like my car when I did a rebuild last year.

Do this for me please. Remove the cap to the distributor, and spin the rotor Does it spin freely? As in if you where to spin it in one direction then back in the other direction freely?

Are all your 15 fuses in good condition? Just between the battery, in the box thiers a 15 fuse in the lower right corner its the main fuse for the ecu if that fuse is out or bad it wont start also.

These two problems will also produce the same effect.

johnathon- I agree about the oil, but the valve cover gaskets are new. I believe thr ings are bad and oil is seeping up. i will be doing a compression test later in the week. thank you for your concern about codes. i'm sure it's easy as pie. it's just finding time and good weather to do it. I've already set aside time later in the week to do that.
emission-timing belt jumping? sounds possible. that's why i want to re-do my timing. yes, the rotor spins freely. all the fuses and relays i can find, under the hood & by the drivers kick panel, are good. thankx guys. still tryin....when i'm not slammed at work.

lol!!!!!!!!!!! Rotor spins freely???

That's bad dude!!! you may have switched up the cams.

Pull the distributor and stick your finger in thier or even look or feel for threads.

:biglaugh:

If you mixed up the cams its not gonna start for anything.

sorry, i must have written something funny and not known it. the rotor does NOT spin frrely, contrary to what i said b4. my mistake. i was thinking of when i was turning the crank with a wrench. i'm pretty sure my cams are fine. they're new. in fact, the whole head has been re-built with new stuff. sorry for the mix-up.

ok guys---update.....
I finally got around to checking my timing. I pulled the timing cover off, inspected everything. things look good. i rotated the crank to "0". The cam gears line up to the hash marks on the rear timing belt cover just behind the cam gears & the distro is right at no. 1. This is the way it was when i did the head job. It doesn't seem to have changed....which i guess, according to the TSRM, is right.
Next, i checked the plugs. They are in order and firing spark, as the shocks to my hand can attest. (yes, i tried to make it spark on metal, but you always get hit.)
Next, i checked codes. I did the paper clip trick just like you said. I counted the number of flashes from the "check engine" light. There's no pattern. It just steadily blinks. What does this mean?
I'm not a mechanic, but i do know you have to have fuel, fire, and timing. It sseems to have all of those. Any ideas? Could it be something electronic? Please help. Thanks everybody. --"wish i could b driving the supie one day"

It is rare, but I have seen instances where the key that holds the timing gear (on the crank) in place sheared or was missing. Usually this is caused by a more serious problem, like hydrolocking from the blown headgasket, weakening or cracking the key. Like I said, this is rare, but I have seen it happen. See if the grooves for the key are lined up correctly, or if you can move the crank while holding the timing gear.

i have had the keyway rebuilt long time ago. i checked it and everything. things seems ok with that end of this problem. any idea about blinking code??? i fixed the horn issue, and put in more gas thinking the 3 gallons might not have been enough. fuel line or pump issues??? it has been sitting for almost 2 years, but the gauge says empty even after putting in a total of 5 gallons of high test gas.....argh!!

If the light is just blinking steady, there's no codes. Fuel pump is possible, but rare. My car sat for 2+ years while I fixed the front end (bought it wrecked), and didn't have a prob. You can borrow a fuel pressure tester from Auto Zone. Honestly, its hard to determine what's wrong with a car without seeing it in person.... If you have a mechanic there you trust, take it back to him, and have him go over it with you. He might charge a diagnostic fee, but its worth it to know exactly whats wrong.
