I needs some advice on what I should do. I have a 87 5spd Na supra and am wanting to either rebuild the 7mge and put gte pistons in it and do the na-t conversion or do a 2jz swap. any advice? Im wanting a 450hp car. Which do u think would be the easier route? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

between the two decisions you gave us, I'd say 2JZ, because 450 on a 2JZ is almost as easy as getting into a hood rats pants if you have a kilo of crack in your hand. Pardon the vulgarity but dude 450 is easy on a 2jz, too easy some say. The swap on the other hand won't be too easy, since you're a pre 89 you'll need either an 89+ cross member or custom motor mounts I think driftmotion has them.

As with any swap you'll wanna replace front and rear seals, water pump, possibly oil pump and any gaskets for intake or exhaut manifold. Stock 2JZ headgasket will suffice unless you're doing a 2JZ NA-T then you'll need a different headgasket to lower stock compression to allow for more boost. You may consider a 1.5JZ swap, 1JZ Head and electrnoics and all with a 2JZ Block, making a 1jz with 3.0 liters of displacement :)

Good Luck, and I'm sure you can get any other questions answered by some of the much more knowledgable people on here

^^^^^^^My opinions and nothing more!

I vote 1J. Mine was 87 NA 5spd with the 1J. IMO, 1J or 2J will cost you a bundle. Like they say...you got pay if you wanna play. :biglaugh:

between the two i'd have to say 2JZ but thats only cause i dislike the 7M lol

after driving my 1J car then driving a 7M car it felt like the 7M was gonna fall apart. nowhere near as smooth

Between the two I'd have to say 2JZ, as long as its the GTE.

...Or instead of going NA-T, with pistons and yada yada, just get an actual 7MGTE and use that. Save yourself a little bit of headache.

I bet if you go to the 7m threads you get different advise.
I am not being sarcastic, just recommending you ask there too, you
might find a solution to what you want to accomplish by listening to many
points of view.

This sounds like it's just gonna turn into another 7M Vs 2JZ which has been done to the death here, there has been some really helpful info posted in a bunch of other threads, you should have a search.

From what I've read (and I've done a lot of reading comparing the two motors) is it is all down to personal taste. Some love the 7M and think it's the best thing since sliced bread, others love the idea of the 2JZ NA-T swap while others claim you HAVE TO go GTE, you've just got to do your own research and draw your own conclusions really.

I myself am looking for about 500whp and have decided that I want to go 2JZ and unless a cheap GTE comes along soon, I'll be going NA-T (which I suggested about a YEAR before this NA-T fever that is gripping the forums, and my idea got shot down ;)).

But anyway, do your research and make your own mind up!

I have a 7MGTE in my car, if I could I'd go 2jz because its much easier to work on and is more effecient. If you wanna go 7M go GTE the NA-T 7M is like trying to be a pimp while buying clothes from the dollar store, bad analogy but its true.

TOMA70E, whats wrong with the 2JZGE? Maybe there is something I overlooked..

IMHO the 2JZGE NA-T is a great option. It's cheap, but involves A LOT of work. Suprisingly mine only took me 3 months after I realized it was even possible. There are also many way to do a 2JZGE NA-T setup (engine management especially). If you're really interested in it feel free to check out my build thread in my signature for some ideas.

Yeah guys ^^^^ his car kicks ass, my buddy jesse aka JMCBOOST is well into his 2JZ NA-T setup, I'll try and get pics and vids if possible when he finishes. Hottscennessey inspired his swap, and I may go that route too, that or a 1.5JZ :)

im going 7m na-t:wavey:, but the only thing NA about my setup will be the 1 knock sensor and no oil squirters. im getting forged pistons, bigger injectors and a 61mm+ turbo (looking at a 4088 ATM)...

back on topic, there are many ways to achieve your goals. hell, you could drop in a 1uz and turbo that or use nitrous. look into the costs of each one, how much work is involved along with the fabrication and wiring needed. then figure out which is best for you.

each motor choice is better than others in certain areas. the 1jz-gte requires little wiring, the 2jz-gte on stock twins can hit over 400hp, the 2jz na-t can run off of 7m wiring and ecu, the 1uz can be pushed (with the right setup) to 1000whp on pump and the 7m came in the car so no need to swap.

Yup, he hit the nail on the head.

Reaper brings up another good platform. The 1.5JZ is a good option allowing the engine transition to go more in phases, spreading out the payment instead of dropping a large sum of money at once.

You complete the 1JZ swap, and later install the 2JZ bottom end.

I appreciate all the ideas. Im starting to lean towards the 2jz-ge-t. can someone elaborate more on the 2jz na-t with the 7m wiring and 7m ecu. Can i use my stock na ecu nad na wiring? Any info would be great.

Thanks
