ok im not doing the full swap, now even if i get the gte electronics im still gonna have to run a maft in order to use a different maf sensor right?
if that is the case what is the point of switching to gte electronics if i gotta do the same modifications to it, it seems like a waste of money to me.
from what ive read so far the major difference in the ecus is the timing map wich can be compensated for by retarding the timing a few degrees, i have no desire to run coilpacks so i dont see a point to switching over to them
is there anything i missed cause im not trying to be an ass but i simply dont understand why ppl hate this method so much it works for damn near every other car manufacturer so what is the big deal with this?

Because it's much safer to go the GTE electronics route. Being "different" is a nice way of being broke when the engine grenades...

If anything just read the NA-T sticky and seriously consider your options. GTE Electronics are safer, and very available, no sense in using square wheels when you can get a set of round ones.

fair enough im sourcing the gte electronics now , and ill wait to put in the safc2 till after the electronics are in

The GE is fully supported... I've been running N/A-T on GE electronics with MAFT Pro for a few months now. The 7M-GE ECU is fully supported by the MAFT Pro. The ECU has a large enough fuel map to support boost, but you really should run larger injectors and add a fuel controller of one form or another... running without a wideband is not recommended.

For a while I was down on running the GE electronics with the MAFT Pro due to some strange behavior I had noticed which hadn't been commented on by others running GTE's with the MAFT Pro... it has since come to light that the GTE's electronics behave in a similar way (for several owners at least) leaving me of the opinion that the only two reasons for switching to GTE electronics are: distributorless ignition and less time spent tuning the timing.

EDIT: Oh, and the VAFM SUCKS!

EDIT2: For removing the VAFM and for fuel tuning you may wish to consider the MAFT Pro or the MAFT Gen II. The Gen II doesn't support S/D, but it will let you run a GM MAF.... both integrate with a wideband but no boost control on the Gen II and it's missing a couple other features that the MAFT Pro has. They're both an excellent choice for this kind of project though.

ok im glad you posted
cause now it just comes down to cost effectiveness
i would have to buy the injectors either way
so the price total for the ecu, wiring harness, coilpacks, ignitor, new spark plug wires, and a cps vs the price of a maft pro or gen 2 (new the pro goes for 399)as per their website (and the gen2 goes for like 217 or somthing like that)
so which one will be more cost effective is the question now

hey everyone im almost done sourcing the gte electronics and other nessesary parts for this project
i had another question tho
i took a look at my block and where the oil filter sits on it and just underneath it theres a block off plate
my question is is that block off plate where the stock turbo is supposed to drain or is it something else
cause i dont have ALL the facts on the source of the motor that came in the car when i bought it but it seems to be pieced together im wondering if i got lucky and have a gte block lol

Nope. it's a pressure port and it's blocked off on all 7Ms. It could be used as a supply but the port by the thermostat neck is more convenient, IMO.

oh ok i got it i have an na block

so tapping the block in that spot or tapping the oil pan are my only other options right?

can either be done safely with the block still in the car (im not in a shop so that would be really helpful not to have to pull the motor lol)
