N/A Powerband

Hey all, I wanted to know where the powerband is on you're cars. My n/a is auto and bone stock, but it seems like it's powerband is in the higher rpms. I get great acceleration off of the line, but the RPM's fall off a little if I'm not WOT.

Here's how it works for me: Say I'm at half throttle. If I'm accelerating, the RPMs will go to about 3000, then drop to 2700-2800, then climb to the top before shifting. It seems like all of my power is up top.

Is this normal for an n/a, or would this be like if the previous owner tossed a gte intake cam in?

(I know my wording may be a little confusing, and I apologize for that.)

Thanks for any input

sounds like your transmission is downshifting when you step on it, which is what it's supposed to do..

there's a "kick down" button on your gas pedal that causes it to shift..

What?

If you're rpms ever go down while accelerating you have issues much larger than a turbo intake cam.

I think you miss-worded that.

The N/A's seem to have most torque around 3-4,500 RPM. That's just a guess on my part, but I do recall peak torque coming in around there.

**Edit, RazoE's idea might be what you're talking about, but I still dont understand what you are saying about your rpms.

I probably did word it wrong. I'll try to get a video up by tonight to show what I mean.

Razoe: It does this in first gear as well.

Post up a video. Your post was confusing.

Although my N/A's powerband was everywhere, the "strongest point" of my car was around 3500+ RPMs. I never felt a "V-Tec" like kick in my car, ever, but that made me feel good. This means that ACIS is working properly :)

I was wrong in my post saying that it happened in first gear; I tested it out when I was running errands earlier, and it happens in all gears except first. If I were to have it at 50% throttle, then slowly increase to about 75% throttle, it accelerates sort of slowly at first and then hits the strongest after 3000.

ma70.ent: I will try to have a video up by about 10:30 (central time).

I apologize that my posts were confusing, I tried to word them as best I could, but it didn't seem to make a difference.

I never see a need to take my NA past 5800 rpms. It is pretty much poop after that and I am wasting my time to not be hitting my next gear.

It's not up to me when to shift, it's up to the ecu. My car is auto.

I'd say I get best performance between 4500 and 6200 RPM. It pulls pretty strong up to 6800 but there is definitely a drop in power before I reach the stock redline.

NA autos are weird, a good friend of mine has one and it feels like it pulls harder than my five speed after putting the pedal down on a 20mph roll, but then when you put the pedal down at 45-50mph it will fall in feeling, until the lower gear grabs, and it doesn't quite feel like it pulls like my five speed, granted I didn't get a chance to drive it for long so it may have just been me not used to it.

In my car, I think it pulls all the way up to around 6,000-6,250 rpms. It doesn't feel like it drops off much at all, but the ACIS helps a lot.

"Torque Converter" is a hint ;)
