My Wing

Yeah so ive gotten coutless PM's and questions in misc. threads about this wing. I bought this car in November after falling in love with it at a good guys hot rod show in Pleasanton CA. I have come to the conclusion that that it is a modified wing some how.

Just about my car, it is an 87 NA that has the sports pakage. It does have a window mounted 3rd taillight. Here are some pics. I did include one of the bottom of the wing where it seems like the wing mounted brake light was removed. I have always said That wing is my favorite part of the car. If I ever do anything to it that is staying....

I know for a fact that I've seen that wing, or at least a very similar one, before. Is it stock from another vehicle or aftermarket? Someone here's gotta know.

I love the fact that it hangs off the rear and only has two legs. It's exactly what I've been wanting, minus a built in LED third brakelight like the 3000GTs have.

Wow now i wish i knew what it was. I am almost certin it is a stock MK3 wing just mounted funny. It does have some imperfectins in the finish you can feel with your fingers on the tips of the wing.

Well, the resemblance is striking! I have the catalog here, and the only difference I noticed was yours goes over the edge of the hatch where it mounts. Other then that its damn near Identical.

Looks great, and being further back than the stocker, it should work better too.

I like it very much. Mind if I copy it in many ways by modifying the stocker? LOL

Adding a LED lamp from another wing would be no problem at all. Just the work involed, and sourcing the lamp. (If your careful and cut it out of a fiberglass wing, you could just glass it into the "modified wing so it would be flush mount and everything.)

I like the longer more forward swept wing tips.
I like how it's hanging off the rear of the hatch.
I like how it's angled up slightly more for better downforce. (At the expense of more drag possibly, but that's the trade off of any wing that adds downforce.)

Too bad there is no market for a nice copy of this with some mods. (At least that I can tell, nobody is going to break down your door to buy a 400.00 wing, and that's what it would cost to make the molds and other work to produce this type of wing in mass.)

I'd love to see it done "thinner" in cross section, using epoxy and kevlar fabric, balsa wood core at the mount with stainless screw inserts for easy mounting. You could use hollow core material too for the wing areas. Wrap it with kevlar fabic, and then a final CF overlay an it would be amazing with some tinted clear coat on top for a candy color match on my car..

So I can say I have a wanannabe Regulus wing. Im accually very interested in what this is now. If/When I tear my car apart for paint ill have to examine her.

Wow my car is special! I always told my mom while we were watching Overhaulin, if Chip Foose ever took my car, I would kill him if he touched my wing. It would be a cool wing to get copied wouldnt it. Who wants to come visit me lol.

Does Regulus have a website? Ive searched with no avail with multiple terms. Or is it in Japanese?

Could it be a Regulus for a different car? It does look VERY similar. If it is for another car it'd have to be a wide car like a 3000GT. I REALLY like how it sits so far back and is styled more aggressively than the stock wing.... but still subtle enough to look like it came with the car.
